They just don't make games like Wing Commander anymore - if someone re-released them with updated graphics (wouldn't need to be cutting-edge) but without messing with the gameplay or story I'd buy them in a flash.

The first time I got a loop kill in Battlefield 1942 where I jumped out of a plane, shot down my opponent with a bazooka and landed back in the cockpit to fly away.
I never got into the Wing Commander series, but played the crap out of X-Wing and Tie Fighter (and there expansions).
Memorable moments for me would have to be from the Descent: Freespace series. The massive scale of the capital ships, a storyline of humanity getting it's ass kicked with no hope (Freespace 1) and the awesomeness of the beam weapons in Freespace 2.

I originally had a friend show me and it only took several hours or cursing and swearing and some outright hilarious moments of getting run over by my own plane to have in happen once, and I was never able to do it again

^^ My favorite was jumping out of a plane/helicopter at top speed right before it'd crash into whatever you were trying to kill... at a certain altitude you'd survive the landing... of course the exploding plane usually did you in.
My favorite video game moment was when my buddy had a double of the Nintendo game Blades Of Steel and we decided to see if we microwaved it for a few seconds would it still play. It still played but all the commentary was gibberish except for one golden moment where I checked his guy right in front of the net and instead of saying "penalty shot" it would say "penile slot". Guess what we spent hours doing? We lost contact over the years but I wonder if he still has that game, lol.
Probably not my favourite, but one that stands out is beating the Golden Axe arcade in the Calgary Tower on my 10th bday. Man I pumped that thing full of quarters, felt like I played all night. The one and only time I actually beat an arcade game from start to finish in a public place. I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I finally beat it.
Playing the new Deus Ex made me think of another great moment: the part in the first game where you escape from the secret MJ12 prison and then suddenly realize exactly where you are...

I have a couple memorable ones from FF VI (3 when I played it on SNES hehe)
FF3 had so much win in it regardless.
My favorite part was probably where everyone gets split and you've got the 3 quests to do (in the order you choose), you slowly reunite everyone w/ all your extra allies and start taking the offensive vs. Kefka.
Fight with Ultros was pretty damned cool as well.
But speaking of FF - my favorite part was in FF 2 when Rydia jumps back in the middle of the fight when you are fighting Golbez, much, much older with a bunch of kick ass summon magic.
Cecil fighting himself and becoming a Paladin.
The twins (Porum and Palum) turning to stone to save you and your friends.
Tellah using "White Meteo".

If you want to go off memorable images, Final Fantasy is damn near full of em. VII has more than I can count; the nuke in space, Mako Cannon shooting Sapphire Weapon, Dane and Barrett, the fight at the pillar, first time arriving at the gold saucer. Just so many vivid images. VIII has a couple, the opening scene and the parade are just fantastic. IX with all the Black Mages coming to life or Atmos behing summoned and destroying Lindblum or the Bahamut/Alexander Battle. While I hated X, the game played like a movie so incredibly visuals were all it had. The first time Sin attacks or the crashing the wedding are nice and intense.

To this day X is the only FF I've ever finished. I loved that game.
The storming of the beach in MoH Allied Assault is definitely up there for me.
The final fist fight in MGS4 and the entire mashing buttons to crawl down the hallway are probably my most recent "wow" moments.
My first encounter with a red PK outside of Moonglow in UO.
Then my second when I came back and killed his ass and looted my stuff back.
Beating the dickhead leader of our guild alliance on the roll for Earthfury shoulders in MC and completing my set before him.
Wanting nothing other than a copy of Rebel Assault for Christmas but not getting it under the tree and feeling totally let down and choked about not getting the one thing I really, really wanted. Then going downstairs to the computer and finding one more present wrapped up sitting on the keyboard...

playing through Tie Fighter for the first time. it was the absolute pinnacle of story and gameplay when it came out, and still stands as one of the best space sims of all time
i remember feeling so much more powerful as you progressed through the ranks and went from a feeble base Tie Fighter up to the massively overpowered Tie Defender. taking out capital ships solo with that thing was awesome

Loved FS2 beam cannons... Getting blasted out of space by something thousands of times your size was great. Sadly I haven't felt that type of awe since this game.
They release freespace 2 source code and the community has updated the engine lots of times for higher textures, graphics, etc. Looks quite a bit better now than the original.
