Not so sure about that. AOF was never a band that picked up much airplay on radio. Cancon or not...most stations wouldn't touch it. They also managed a decent following in the US and Australia. Not my cup of tea but I will give them credit. They earned all of their success. Toured their asses off too.

I don't think a station in Calgary actually played their music until X92.9 started up... which was well after their big 'Crisis' album.

Maybe in Calgary. The Edge in Toronto played them all the frickin' time.

Yupp, I was just going to say this. They got quite a bit of air time around here.

This is a really sad day, as I was a huge fan for the better part of the last 10 years. They were essentially my defining band during college, and now that they're gone, I feel the last lingering bit of my college life has finally closed its book haha . . . I saw their show at Mac Hall in 2007 and it was definitely a highlight for me. There's something about the contrasting styles of George Petit and Dallas Green that made them appealing to me. That said, I think Dallas is letting the success of City and Colour go to his head.

I did, however, wonder how long it was going to take for them to breakup. Dallas seemed pretty distant from the band for a while now.

Rough Hands, Waterwings, Sidewalk when She Walks and .44 Calibre Love Letter FTW.

That's true. They did receive some love from Modern Rock Radio and Much Music. I think there are only 8 or 9 "Modern Rock" stations in the entire country though. So exposure to the masses was limited.

The screaming guy needs to be heard live, it's a totally different story.

Great energy concert when I went to see them at Mac Hall.

Too bad they split up.
I wonder if it's Dallas Green's growing ego getting in the way

I was not a big fan of their music, but I do like Dallas Green, so I am excited to see more of his solo stuff moving forward.

Comments from Dallas on the breakup:
http://www.spinner.ca/2011/08/08/dal...sonfire-split/

The only thing I can say about this is when Jesse did the same thing years ago, Dallas was one of the first to trash him in the media. Now he does the same thing and he thinks its unfair that comments were made. And that it wasn't done the way HE wanted it to be. That's what sticks out the most to me in that whole interview. He wanted it done his way and didn't get his way and now trying to act like he was wronged.

Wayfarer Youth from OCYC is probably my favourite song by them. Can't find it on youtube but it is definitely top three for me.

Completely agree. I used to be one of those "it'd be great without the all the screaming" guys, but then I saw them live. After that, I was a huge fan. I think that was probably 5 years ago. I've now seen both Alexisonfire and City & Colour multiple times, and Alexisonfire is hands down a better show in my opinion.

Since I complained about them in the wrgmg's thread about destroying a Midnight Oil song, I say, good riddance. Always hated that band.

I found that remake interesting, but I agree it wasn't overly great. I LOVE the original Dead Heart. Was one of my favorite songs growing up.

Apparently they started singing it for audiences in Australia as a fun sort of homage for them and eventually decided to record it.

Gallows has been my absolute favorite band over the past 2 years, love them. Their singer left just last month and today it was announced that the big guitar player from Alexisonfire is replacing him. Not that familiar with that band, hopefully they can produce something cool but I don't have high hopes.

Wade McNeil really has a backup singer voice, not a leading one. Often times his vocals got drowned out by George Petit's during the singing of the verses in their songs. He had one song on the Crisis album where he did lead vocals called "Keep it on Wax," but it wasn't a noteworthy song by any means.
