But that's a large jump to go from Calgary's handful of murders to Edmonton's 33. The fact of the matter is Edmonton has always had a higher murder rate. I think part of the reason is a more blue collar city. I'm sure there are other factors. The frustration over the Oilers for instance.

Not sure what you mean by that, unemplyment rates in Edmonton and Calgary are similar. Economic output is higher in Calgary, due to the blue collar/white collar difference, but Calgary also has a higher concentration of high value finance jobs.
What is kind of interesting is that despite having a lower per capita income, retail sales per capita is higher in Edmonton than in Calgary. Yes, I am sure the jokes will write themselves there.

Don't want this to be a Calgary vs. Edmonton thing, I was just curious about the differences.

I just meant the Alberta economy dipping. Which I believe was the point in the subject line... Didn't mean it as a point between cities. Just meant that a bad economy will trigger crime anywhere.

Someone has got to teach those Somalians and Sudanese how to operate a car first, how do those people obtain licenses?

The most racist thanks I've ever given, but so very true.
These drivers have taken over the worst driver spot from the traditional Asian grandma driver.

Yeah, I would probably agree, I was just saying, in general a dipping economy will do that to crime rates.

No way; some Africans are terrible drivers, sure, but its not a consistent thing like the Triple-O's.

Many of them still have mullets and are very susceptible to living in the past. Over time this leads to depression and other problems, and eventually you just want to kill someone.

The point was the opposite, the booming economy means that a lot of people are making a lot of money in the field. When they get their days off in the wonderful Disneyland of the North, they go crazy with the drugs and alcohol, which apparently leads to the murdering.
