Favre's problem is that he wants to retire right after the season and when his body is in rough shape. Once he heels up throught the off season and training camp gets closer, the intense competitor in him comes back. I'm not saying thats what's going to happen but so far its playing out exactly as it has in the past.

I agree. I am sick and tired of people thinking badly of Favre when he is not doing anything. Some sports person speculates and then it all starts up again. People start asking Favre again and again and again until he says something about maybe it would be nice to play again. Then it just gets worse.
I think people should just leave him alone.

Definitely part of it, but I also think it has a ton to do with the fact that he's a well-known hater of TC. So if he flip-flops and "can't make up his mind" all summer, then he can skip it. I've been saying this for years. And the last go-round, what happened? He officially signed with the Vikes the DAY AFTER training camp ended. There's not a doubt in my mind that's what it was. He wants to play, he's just a lazy SOB.

Last off season he constantly left the door open by refusing to close it, there was never anythign out of the Favre camp dismissing rumors or saying he was done. This off season he's said he was done unequivocally on at least one occasion, and stayed well out of the spotlight. Two thigs he's never done before. Now a rumor pops up about him coming back and it's immediately shot down by his agent and somehow Favre did something wrong? Give me a break. If his agent hadn't said anythig it would be 'C'mon Brett, if the rumors aren't true say so'. The guy will never win with some people.

Ya I've actually heard that there would be quite a few older players who retired who would've probably played an extra year or two if they could skip TC. I understand it sucks, and I hear part of the agreement will be to scale down its intensity in future years (e.g. eliminating two-a-days).
Still though, that's your job. Especially as a QB, you are the leader. If you're sippin beers & fishing on the dock with your dog in your Wranglers while taking Prilosec while your WR's, RB's, TE's, OL, etc are busting their balls in TC, how on earth is that helping your team get better? Then he finally shows up and the offence looks completely out of sync the entire first month of the season, go figure. Sorry, that's a selfish, selfish move for a QB making Favre money to make.
And as far as this go-round with Favre-watch, I've been in "NFL doesn't exist mode" the past few months because of the lockout, so I don't know all the particulars on how this year's version started. All I'm going on is the past 3 straight years before that, with all his flip-flopping. I have no sympathy for that guy whatsoever. The media love affair with him definitely doesn't help, for sure. But he gives them the ammo with his indecisiveness.

I didn't say it was a great move, but it's not uncommon, and I refuse to put the blame all on the player if a team's management and coaches are willing to go along with it. You take what you can get in this game, especially when your body has taken a beating for 20 years.
As to point two, he hasn't been around at all this year. The only time he's been a presence was at the camp he hosts at Southern Miss, where he told reporters he was done and left it at that. Not sure how that's indecisive at all. I didn't have a problem with people being bothered the alst couple of years, but to targeted Favre this time is simply stupid.

Fair enough, personally I still blame him for that in year's past (that idiot Childress deserves a lot of heat too), as a QB, team leader, veteran, and at Tom Brady $$$, he should know what he needs to do in that situation.
As for this year, if he really hasn't uttered a peep and its all media rhetoric, fine, fair enough. But in the coming weeks, if I see his grayish mug on TV, see-sawing about what he wants to do again, he deserves everything he gets.
EDIT: Oh, one question for people here: I keep reading how FA's can be contacted/signed as of 8AM MDT tomorrow. Is that refering to just being able to sign your own UFA's, or do they mean tomorrow is legitimately day 1 of UFA for the league?

A tentative timeline would allow NFL clubs to start signing 2011 draft picks and rookie free agents on Tuesday. Conversations with veteran free agents also could start Tuesday, and their signings could begin Friday.

So it looks like you can speak with anyone starting Tuesday but if they have ever had an NFL contract then you can't sign them until Friday.
I guess it sounds like they are using Friday the same as the traditional UFA signing period - you can't speak with another team's pending UFAs until the signing period begins.

Unfortunatley he's brought that on himself. When he left the Packers the first time he stayed away and dint' do anything. Then all of a sudden about a month before camp he calls McCarthy and says he wants to come back. That offseason he did an interview with Maruicci where he specifically asked him if the Packers called what would he do and he said while it was tempting he was retired. I cna't find the link but there was an interview he did after his season with the Jets where he said there was no chance he was coming back.
Keep in mind this goes back to even pre - retirment sage talk. His last few years with the Pack he was very open about not wanting to come to Ota's and training camp. When McCarthy came in, Favre complained back then about doing Mini Camps, OTAs and training camp and would drag out his retirment with the Packers. Combine that with some of his "off field" issues, I think people have good reason to have things against Favre. And this is coming from a person who is a Packers fan because of Brett Favre. I use to adore the guy, but unfortunatley his actions I think have been less than spectacular for about 8 years now.
Again, i'm not saying that this report is true it probably is not. I'm not saying Favre planted it, all i'm saying is that it would fit with what's been happening for many years now. I agree with what you said above is that teams like the Vikings are just as much as fault as Favre, but I also don't think you can help that people are going to feel this is "here we go again".

Those rumors came from the Philadelphia media, specifically Howard Eskin. Favre had zero to do with it.

Good to see the Broncos opening on Wednesday. They need all the time they can get.

Good recap of the coming timeline before the season starts and the economics of the deal.

I believe the dates are 15 days before their first exhibition game. That is why the staggering, they weren't dates pulled from a hat.

The rookie wage scale seems confusing. 22.03 for Cameron newton but what about the others. That 5th year option is terrible since it has to be picked up in the 3rd year. The owners might have been taken here.
