I wonder if tasting coffee blind has the same issues as tasting wine blind? I can't seem to find a link but I remember reading that "expert" wine tasters couldn't tell the difference between an expensive wine and cheap wine (or something like that)?

I personally try to stay away from dairy products and sugar, so I drink coffee black... and Tim Hortons coffee is terrible in it's base form. I think you could put the same amount of cream and sugar in ashtray water and it would probably taste good too.
I don't think you realize that a lot of people take their Tim's black. I tend to not get involved with discussions with beer, whine, coffee, etc. snobs that claim that their favorite beverage is the best and the stuff that is popular is garbage but some of you need to understant that what people like is what people like and I don't like snobs telling me that I'm fond of ashtray water.

I didn't say anywhere in my post that Tim Hortons' coffee is ashtray water. I just said that you could probably take ashtray water and add enough cream and sugar that it taste good. (Humans are biologically engineered to like the taste of things that are fatty and high in calories afterall).

I am always working with contractors in the field, and for whatever reason, at some point during the day, someone will go and make a Tims run (even if there is a Coffee Time or whatever right next door), and I am almost always the only person who gets black, and I'd say that most of everyone else gets "double double". If someone is getting a "double double" (not saying that is you), then how can that person really make a judgement on the coffee when the product is overwhelmed by the cream and sugar? In my opinion, if you'll let me have one, is that the coffee in it's base form is lousy. I would wager that most people who drink black coffee would agree. Of course there are going to be some people who like it

You are free to have an opinion but just because you don't like Tim Horton's doesn't mean it's crap. I don't particularily care for Starbucks but I never feel the need to go into a Starbucks conversation and tell people that like it that they are drinking is lousy, overpriced coffee as it's already obvious that they aren't going to agree with me.

Apple is popular therefore Apple is crap. Tim Hortons is popular therefore Tim Hortons is crap, etc, etc. Some people simply can't come to grips that their prefered phone, beverage, or whatever isn't the most popular therefore they feel they have to slander what the masses prefer at every opportunity. I love the internet but at times I get tired of the big hatefest it turns into.

I'm fully aware that a Tim Hortons DD is essentially a desert coffee but I like it. Why can't you accept that and why do you feel the need to tell me how bad you think it is?

Why do people always assume that just because some think Tim Hortons' coffee is awful, that they automatically like Starbucks? Personally, I'll go into a Husky or Flying J and get a coffee over any of those places. It has nothing to do with being popular either, other than the fact that I like to avoid busy places. Blackberries are popular - I have one and like it a lot. Microsoft is popular and I like their products.

For the record, I like Tim Hortons' soup.

Bagels

Things that are awful at Tim's:

Hash browns

I also agree the McD has the best coffee.

Why do people think that Starbucks' coffee is overpriced? A venti basically costs $2 or something. What does a Tim Horton's cost?

I work at Starbucks and unfortunately $2 would only buy you a tall cup, it is very overpriced. The amount of money that people will drop on mediocre coffee and lattes at that place never ceases to amaze me. A venti white mocha costs $5.41.

Yeah, but I am only talking about the coffee the day kind of thing. I didn't think there was a huge price difference between the major players.

By the way, when are they bringing back the "Bananas & Cream" frappuccino??

The worst part about Starbucks isn't the price... it's the order. I'll stand in line and one person will order some venti macchiato double shot cream soy or whatever... and it seems everyone has some 10 word long order. Then I order my normal coffee and feel like I'm missing something. I feel for the barista's there...

There was a dictionary they were giving away at one point in BC for how to speak "Starbuckese" and order a drink.

add their breakfast sandwiches to that too, i just can't eat them anymore. can't believe they just throw a pre-formed powdered egg into the microwave, toast an english muffin, and call that breakfast. even McD's can crack and cook a real egg, and their hashbrowns taste like actual potatoes, not burnt cardboard

the only thing i can stomach anymore at Tim's is the chili, but even that isn't as great anymore without the bread bowl

I'm eating an English Muffin breakfast sandwhich and a bottle of peach juice. And it is delicious.

My opinion is there isn't one best cup of coffee out there....Tim Horton's tastes like Tim Horton's, and sometimes I want that. There's nothing wrong with slumming once in a while. I drink my coffee black, and its fine - it just tastes like...black Tim Horton's coffee

I forgot about the peach juice. That would probably be my my favourite thing that they sell.

I just don't see Tim Horton's as slumming it. Slumming it would be stopping at Chevron or Husky for a coffee. The impression that I get from the way Tim Horton's promotes itself and from the way people like to go out of their way for it, it should be a high-end product.

Personally, I find pretty much any greasy spoon diner is fine and the waits are nothing.
