Am i the only one who finds it funny that being anti-Portugal results in a rant against you, while being admittedly pro-Portugal gets the 'sue me' response??
Go ahead and be biased, but it's a little hypocritical to go after people for doing the same thing.

You watch many Benfica games?? Something tells me you don't and your assesment of him is laughable at best. How can you say something like that about a player you've barely watched outside of WC 2010(where he was very good and arguably Portugal's best player) and maybe the odd Portugal qualifier.
He is young, fast, skilled, smart, and is only getting better. But you don't understand the purchase??
|
Wow. Whoa there.
Contrao is nothing special, nothing worth 30M Euro. Explain to me how hes any better, or, rather, any different at all from Marcelo. They're the same age, play the same position with the exact same attributes.
Hence the purchase makes very little sense to me. The only thing I can think of is that he can allow Arbeloa to move back to right back instead of covering on left, but you're not paying 30M for depth players.
No, I do not watch a lot of Benfica games because, quite frankly, they're tough to find and the ones you can find are in Portuguese and the Portuguese league doesnt really interest me. I have seen him play at international competitions however, I even saw him play in Portugal's loss to Colombia at the U-20 World Cup when they played in Edmonton.
Hes a good player, but the fit doesnt make sense and the cost seems really high for a player that Madrid effectively already have.
As for my 'Portugal Hate.' Well, I'd tell you to get used to it but I think you already have. Face it, the Portuguese 'powerhouse' havent won a meaningful game against a half decent side for the better part of a decade. At least they've finally managed to crack the defensive juggernauts of Norway and Denmark, one day they'll even get past Cyprus. They just arent that good, despite the protests of their fans.
And hey, I'm a big fan of Raul Meireles.
Oh. And Liverpool sign Charlie Adams.

I dont get letting O'Shea go, he's not a great player by any means but he can play almost anywhere in the back 4 in a pinch
good squad player to have

You have more to worry about with Luka Modric. At the moment it looks like hes set to beg Levy to sell him for about 7M euro.
Hell, for that kind of money Liverpool should buy him while they're out buying every other available midfielder in Europe.
EDIT: Sorry, got Modric and Krancjar mixed up. Krancjar wants to leave for 7M euro, Modric is the one whos going to beg Levy today. Too many Croatians.

this is hilarious as well, first quote is after Adebayor and Toure went to City, 2nd quote is after Clichy himself did
July 25th 2009: “I really believe if you are a player who thinks only about money then you could end up at Manchester City,” said Clichy. “You have to think if you want to play for a big club and have your image or if you want to play for a good club and earn big money. When you ask someone to move for something like £300,000 a week it is just crazy.”
July 4th 2011: “I’m really happy to be joining such a great club,” said Clichy. “I hope I can add to the quality we already have here because we have a fantastic squad who I believe will continue to get better. I can’t wait to get started and I think anything is possible with this team.”

I wouldn't rant against you or anyone else, just Locke. But his response was well thought out and I have nothing to quibble about there. I just thought he was hatin for the sake of hating because he was Portuguese. I don't agree with everything he wrote, but whatever, it's an opinion. move on.

I don't understand it either. I want him around. Perfect depth player like you said.

Okay, this is my official 'WTF is going on' post.
For midfielders Liverpool have, in no particular order:
- Gerrard
- Adam
- Meireles
- Henderson
- Lucas
- Cole
- Spearing
- Poulson
- Shelvey
- Aquilani
WTF are we going to do with all these people? Play all 10 of them in front of Reina and hope for the best?

Oh Wegner... Even if we manage to keep Cesc, we'd be best served by getting the Nasri/Cesc replacement sooner rather than later.

It is rather baffling. I'm sure Kenny has a plan though, right?

I have to say I'm impressed with Levy. I've never been a fan of Spurs and I almost loathe Redknapp, but I like the way this guy does business.
"I want to play CL for Chelsea."
- 'No.'
"But they'll pay!"
- 'I said no, now quit your whinging and continue passing the ball like a creative mad man.'
"Yes sir....."

Think Aquilani is gone
Cole would be gone if his wages weren't so high, but he won't play a big part
Shelvey should be loaned out to a team like Swansea/Norwich or a championship side to play every game
Henderson is probably a year away from being an everyday starter for a team with top 4 aspirations
Gerrard can't play CM anymore, he needs to be in the hole behind the striker(s) at this point, basically a Van der Vaart role
Lucas should play every game
Adam probably should as well, and for all the talk about his set pieces and left foot he played in a pretty holding role for Blackpool as well so he is decent defensively
Poulson is past it
Spearing is at the age where if he hasn't shown it yet he probably doesn't have it to be at a club like Liverpool
Meireles is probly relegated to a sub's role this year
I would guess that at this point their most likely lineup is
Carroll
Suarez/Kuyt
Gerrard
Adam/Lucas
with Henderson and Meireles playing as well quite a bit
