Now that he's gone, I'm starting to think that Wegner might not be looking outside the squad for his replacement. In true Wegner style, I think he might end up placing his trust, rightly or wrongly, in Gibbs. Too bad we didn't cash in on Clichy last year...

I'm thinking more and more that Vertonghen might be the perfect defensive addition. As he can slot in the centre of defense, be used as a defensive midfielder, and play on the left flank he'd be able to move around as necessary.

Let's consider upon what he's basing his opinion.
In the last few years, his only interaction with former Arsenal players has been with the likes of Adebayour and Toure. The former is a massive twat and the latter likes to experiment with banned substances. Now with Clichy having passed his medical one could assume he's drug free and be safely able to conclude that he is a twat. It's elementary my friends.

Not to mention, their fans are 'raging' because of a lack of transfer activity? What do you want them to do? Barca are broke, but they also just won everything rather easily. You dont really have to add much to that team.

Might not mind him at the Emirates... Could be a tidy piece of business by Wegner.

Please, Coentrao is a stud. Your anti-Portugal bias never lets up, does it?? It's now become more funny than annoying to me.
You watch many Benfica games?? Something tells me you don't and your assesment of him is laughable at best. How can you say something like that about a player you've barely watched outside of WC 2010(where he was very good and arguably Portugal's best player) and maybe the odd Portugal qualifier.
He is young, fast, skilled, smart, and is only getting better. But you don't understand the purchase??

Seriously? Maybe if you put down the Portugal Kool-Aid you'd see that there is some truth to what he said. Unfortunately, your posts are still more annoying than funny...

Weird, I wasn't going for funny. Don't like what I have to say, put me on ignore.
Sure there's some bias in my post. I like Portuguese players more than others. Sue me. But Locke has been anti anything Portugal since the day he started posting in these soccer threads.
Coentrao may not be as good as I make him out to be, but he has some attributes that does make him a special player. So maybe the truth lies somewhere between my feelings and Locke or any other Portugal haters' feelings.
If Locke's comments were about the money or Madrid's needs and that's why he didn't understand the transfer, then I retract my post. But given Locke's hatred for anything Portugal, I was not giving him the benefit of the doubt.
If the comments were about his ability, then I have issue with a guy doggin on a guy who is one of, if not Portugal's best young talent. Not to mention that I have a hard time believing that Locke has seen very much of Coentrao given that he played for Benfica last year and the Superliga is not really shown too much, here in Canada.
