Possible Trip to Boston, Ideas?

Since the NHL screwed me again this year with the schedule, odds of me making it to a Flames game this year are fairly low.

That said, Labour Day weekend my ball team is in Boston. I'm trying to convince my girlfriend that we should go, however baseball isn't really a selling point for her.

I'm thinking of things to do for the weekend if I can convince her to go.

Examples:

- Hike the Freedom Trail
- Harbour Cruise/Duck Boat Tour
- Go through Quincy Market, Boston Common
- Explore Harvard
- Have a drink at Cheers, and the Cheers replica bar (she's a big Fraser fan I'll have to milk this one more)

What other ideas are there? Any tips of cheap places to stay, visit?

Black History Tour. It's a walking tour and is fascinating. I love history and there is lots of it there. Do the history stuff; you won't be sorry. Fascinating stuff. Yes, do the Freedom Trail. Harvard is a must see; take a look at the Harvard library and have its history explained (how it was funded).

Forget the Cheers replica bar and go to the one that actually was the model for the show. It looks nothing like the TV bar, so be prepared. The replica is totally commercial.

Fenway Park is great. Across the street is a terrific bar where everyone is carded. It's the most fun bar I've ever been to.

As I posted in one of those threads, I really, really recommend Salem. I had a lot of fun there. So much so that for the month that I was working in Boston I spent 3 of my 4 weekends in Salem.

I was planning a trip to Boston before and this is what I got:

Back Bay/Beacon Hill
Red Sox game
Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall (aquarium)
Newbury Street (shopping)
Chinatown
Eat clam chowder
Independence Trail
Italian district
Visit a Chocolate Dessert Bar
Charles Street

I would go to fox bourough casino and order a large bottle of champaign.

The area between MIT and Harvard is a good walk. I took a train from Boston to the MIT station, and then walked it from there to Harvard. The area is kind of cool with the shops and everything. Walking around some of the older areas of Boston was neat. I stayed in the theater district for a few days and went for walks around there. USS Constitution tour isn't really worth the time, but seeing the old architecture and brownstones was really neat. Art galleries were good too (Gardner museum famous for a heist).

Seafood is a good idea too. I had some lobster thermidor at the Boston Plaza Hotel and it was excellent. There are probably better places to go though.

I agree with everything on this list except the aquarium. It's a bit of a disappointment, especially given the price. You'd be better off taking a day trip to Cape Cod, or if you have a bit less time heading up North to Salem.

It's also worth spending a day in Cambridge if you have time to spare. Amazing place.

I'm glad I'm back in Calgary--it's home. But dang, I miss Boston sometimes. One of the top cities in the world in my view.
