If we need a defenseman who is "serviceable in Abbotsford", the Heat can sign a scrub to an AHL contract, and not waste one of our 50 contracts. What's Pelech going to do for us? If we determine that we desperately need another body come September, we can pick up another Mikkelson or Carson off waivers.

Hopefully he isn't Pavel Brendlish? Wouldn't it be awesome if he was Jagrish though, although I would take Hemskyish!

An AHL version of Hemsky most likely. I wouldn't get hopes too high about this kid. There is a reason he is thrown into a deal with 2 second rounders for another prospect. Horak's chances of making it are slim.
If you compare his scoring rates in his 19 year old season, Horak is shy offensively of guys like Nemisz, Boyd, and Wahl.

Was the Erixon camp willing to go back in the draft to any other team, or were they bluffing. Any other team would have wanted to have a deal in place before a trade within 48 hours of the deadline, so it would be easy enough for the agent to tell other teams that he was not interested in going there. Leaving just the Rangers as the only option.
Either the Rangers deal was the best deal from a number of teams or the Rangers deal was the only deal because that is the only place where Erixon wanted to go. If he went back into the draft the other teams just have to be told he is not going there and he would have fallen to the Rangers.
Reality the trade is: Rangers – Erixon, 5th round pick, 1st round pick Flames – Horak, two 2nd round picks
Or else it would be: Rangers – Erixon Flames – 2nd round pick
Not sure which is better for Calgary, but I definitely see that the Rangers screwed us over. Did the Rangers get inside information from the player, family, or agent? That would be tampering.
Did Erixon decide to string the Flames along so that the Rangers would not have to give up the #15 pick? Possible and good strategy if you want to go to a team that has lots of good assets.
Somebody with the Flames needed to be looking at all the options, talking to any and all sources, and making some hard decisions.
As it stands, the Flames were either incompetent in finding out information, ignorant in ignoring the information, or the equivalent of the A&W Root Bear who is just out bouncing around looking for hugs and love and they were to naive to consider they were being screwed with. Either way it is brutal mismanagement of a top asset for the organization.
This is how Feaster manages a hockey team, through mistakes and apologies.

I would not say his chances are slim, but he is not going to be a top6 forward.

No way it was a bluff, agent told the Flames they were willing to have the player go back into the draft as they felt Erixon would be drafted higher than 23rd.
At that point, it was a Flames decision... which in my view was really simple. They try to obtain maximum amount of assets in return that exceed's a 54th overall pick.
As for the last statement. Most if not all of the concerns which was aired on the Radio that Feaster described were from the Previous Management.
Concern's the agent brought up describe D. Sutter fairly well. (old players vs. young players.... ie not giving the young players the opportunity. Cap heavy team with lots of NMC, AHL was prefered over Europe... )
Now its Feaster's job to make sure this perception goes away.....

Can the Flames file complaints?
1) The Agent did not bargain in good faith.
2) The Rangers may have tampered.

They should. Rule #1 in negotiating a contract is that both parties will act in good faith.
But does the good faith "law" only apply to contracts that are only signed? Since he never signed anything with the Flames I wonder if it would apply.

Flames won't even waste their time. There's no doubt there was tampering here, but it's the New York Rangers.
The better the Rangers do, the better the NHL does.

I'm still really choked over the whole ordeal.
But welcome to Calgary, Roman.

I really hope he makes the team one day. I can already hear the Talking Heads "burning down the house" when he scores.

Sorry everybody, I had to take a call in the middle and missed a whole bunch of stuff... But hopefully it will be up in the audio on demand section shortly.

I'd love to know how this Erixon thing is playing around the league. Has anyone heard any opinions from current or recent NHL management about it (excluding the Flames and Rangers if course)?
