You are missing my point.

It's not moot at all when you consider the repression and cultural identity of certain cultures or institutions. Of course we are all the same creatures, but their respective cultures and religions will not allow that to be expressed or make even cause cycles of guilt and frustration among those who are trying to see themselves as righteous examples of their faith but succumb to sinful pleasures as their religion would dictate.

Of course it's not surprising that men like porn, but don't you find interest in the irony and hypocrisy in this for religious fanatics who advocate brutal violence in the pursuit of instituting a moral code and a theocratic state to just be like everyone else?

I saw a documentary a few years ago about Saudi Arabian culture and men and in their frank interviews, they came across as incredibly angry and bleak. You never saw a single woman, many men never saw their wives' faces until they were married, and their state religion and cultural identity was constantly guilting them for having sinful thoughts or desires and many escape via the internet and modern technology.

It's the same thing as a clergyman who has been repressed by his religious code and isn't allowed to marry or have sexual relations and ending up being arrested with child porn on his computer. Serious mental issues going on.

My thesis is basically "blue balls make some people do bad stuff" when their society doesn't allow healthy expression.

There was a documentary about Muslim woman, and the majority of them would wear elaborate lingerie under their burka's because their husbands demanded it.

Some of the jokes out there about OBL.

Oh man I so hope the US soldier who killed Osama is gay.

The CIA says bin Laden’s last words were "Are you guys here about the dishwasher?"

They should have captured Bin Laden alive and made him continually go through airport security for the rest of his life

"Elisabeth Hasselbeck of 'The View' is writing a children's book about Osama bin Laden's death. She wants to write a book to explain the whole thing to children. No title yet, but I have some suggestions: 'The Cat in the Fatwa,' 'Horton hears a Helicopter,' 'Goodnight, ######'" –Craig Ferguson

“By the way, 'buried at sea'? means 'dumped in the ocean.' That’s what they did with him. They dumped him in the ocean. Now I won't feel so guilty about peeing in the water anymore when I go to the beach."? –Jimmy Kimmel

Its so strange, I'm reading a book called "The looming tower Al Qaeda and the road to 9/11" the start of the book lays out biographies of the major players in the move to the radical Islamic movement and Osama Bin Laden does not come across as your typical terrorist. He came across as a very devout Muslim who treated his children very well, including one that was born with fluid on the brain and mental ######ation. He treated his wives well and even let them continue to work. He lived modestly but he loved riding horses and playing soccer. He wasn't brilliant or a talented student. He was generous to a fault both to his friends and to charity.

Between this book and a few others that I've read on Bin Laden, he just doesn't come across as the monster that I almost want to see.

Pffft...nobody's ever learned anything from books. TV never hinted towards any of that. I trust TV more than anything else in the world. I mean, I was raised in front of the TV, and I turned out TV.

Bin Laden's second in command and probably the leader of Al Quada now, Zawahiri also was that way. Grew up with an affluent family, went to medical school, became a surgeon. His family and friends say he was a happy young man who listened to western music and made jokes, etc. Both of them suddenly developed very hardline and devout religious leanings. Frustrated with the totalitarian regimes of the middle east (which only this year are beginning to ravel) they started to blame the west. Zawahiri was imprisoned by the Egyptian government for protesting. His friends say he was a changed man when he came out. When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, both of the went there. Bin Laden felt he had a duty to fight the infidels and Zawahiri went to provide medical assistance and both of them came out of it as some of the most violent and radical terrorists in modern history.

Now he's the guy on the right.

If you look at how he got radicalized it happened in the egyptian prisons when he was one of hundreds that were rounded up and tortured after the murder of Sadat.

The common thread is the teachings of Sayyid Qutb who was practically the founder of the radical Islamic movement. His book Milestones was heavily read and borrowed upon by Zawahiri and Bin Laden.

However Zawahiri was born into a family that had a radical uncle that was part of the Muslim Brotherhood in its violent phases and he said that he wanted to be a jihadist like his uncle from a young age.

Captain, have you read Growing Up Bin Laden - it's by Omar Bin Laden and Osama's first wife? If not, I recommend it, it's a pretty good read. Paints a really good picture of the inside workings of the family and although you won't see the monster you do get a glimpse on how hard-core the man was in his beliefs

"Rambama" action figure, available now!!!

Quote:
It sports urban camouflage pants, combat boots and a T-shirt with a grinning skull design with the numeral six to represent the Navy SEALS who killed bin Laden. It also includes “the weapon of choice, the M1-A4,” according to the company’s website.

I was struck by this picture, showing Bin Laden in 1972. Looks like an Arabic version of the Family Stone.
