I didn't watch Lost, however, it is a little like BSG which I watched. The writers seemed to get lazy at the end and way too metaphysical and existentialist. Which you'd think I'd like. But wrapping up your TV series by saying 'God did it' is lazy story telling.

For Lost fans, what about The Walking Dead on AMC?

I'd say there are a few similarities, and the first episode of Walking Dead was one of the best for any show I've seen, even if it does get a little worse afterwards.

Well, I watched lost and I don't know what you mean.

If you mean a serialized drama filled with mysteries, well, you've already had Fringe, The Event, and Flash Forward since Lost. More will come every year.

If you mean a show that really captures the interest of the country and develops a rabid fan base dedicated to dissecting it, well, you had The X-Files before Lost, as well as shows like Twin Peaks and Millennium, to some extent. Lost wasn't original in that sense, and it's inevitable we'll get another before too long.

Lost was good, and it struck a chord, but any way you define it, it wasn't unique.

I tried watching Fringe. I started at the beginning of season 1, and half-way through I couldn't watch any more of it. It boiled down to a common pattern in every episode, with the cliche bumbling scientist figuring out soemthing just at the right time.

I heard they changed the formula for the show near the end of season 1, though, and started focusing on the common plot, instead of doing one-off episodes all the time. I might have to get into it, but I really disliked the first half episodes in season 1.

A great show I'm watching these days is the Killing on AMC.

Though Fringe was often entertaining in its first season and a half, it was never essential. That all changed abruptly in early 2010, as the show finally grounded its freak-of-the-week weirdness in deep sadness. It only got better from there, as the series expanded its world by further making those concepts concrete. Fringe is that rare blend of inventive ideas, wild ambition, and unexpected soulfulness.

This sums up my views of Fringe, I liked season 1, but only fell in love with it in season 2. If your willing to jump into the deep end you can watch the last two episodes on CITYTV's website (although one of them will expire soon) and the season 3 finale tomorrow (May 6, 2011).

I've had this conversation before, so I'm not going into the details.

But I didn't say he sucks, I just said that so far he is still pretty much a one hit wonder, and it's been eight years since that happened. Note that after Buffy ended, Angel didn't last either, and the only thing he came up with since (in the moving pictures media) are a couple of flop serieses and a somewhat popular short internet humour-piece.

(Dr Horribles sing-a-long was okay, but I couldn't bother myself to keep up with it all the way. I've also read one album of the comic Fray (I think the first one), and while it was an okay read, it had nothing in it that made me want to read more.)

Also of important note: Whedon's three films so far (either as a writer or a writer/director) are Buffy the Movie, Alien Resurrection and Serenity. First almost killed a franchise before it was born, the second put a long stop to one of the more succesful scifi/horror franchises and the third one came after the franchise was basicly dead already.

I tend to think Stargate Universe will be looked back on as Firefly esq - a well done show that was cancelled before it hit it's stride. Perhaps that's wishful thinking on my part, as I'm a big space sci fi nerd.

Breaking Bad took a while to hook me, and has it's lag moments, but overall is great show if you are into the dark comedy/drama - similar to Weeds in that respect.

Deadwood and Justified are the same show with the same primary actor - except for the cable/network difference. Both are fantastic BTW, and again very dark.

Will there be another Lost? Probably. For my part I hope it's "Lost in Space". Oh wait... time for a reboot!

I like SGU but it had some serious problems with the first season (enough with the stones already) and was addressed in the first half of season 2 which was strong.

The Second half of season 2 has been meh. McKay or Carter would have disposed of the drones 10 episodes or so ago. The drones as the enemy are no Goauld, Ori, Wraith or Replicators.

I am not really sad SGU is coming to and end, I am sad that the SG franchise may be...

Actually, after reading your posts over I'm confused as to what you're looking for as well. You say you don't want "another Lost" but it seems as if your definition of "a show like Lost" is so narrow that only a show that either is Lost or rips off Lost heavily counts as being "like Lost".

I said I don't want Lost to come back...it's done. Someone mentioned about bringing Lost back.

I was simply thinking about Lost when I posted the thread and wondered if there would ever be another show like it. Not sure why this is so hard to understand.

Basically you need a TV show with a great original idea, followed by non-sensical story lines that never seem to end. You need writers that have no clue where to go with the show, but know that they need to carry it on because of the high ratings.

Below is a summary of the final season's story line. If I knew Lost's final season would include any of this, I never would have began watching it. It makes no sense at all.

In the final season, the main storyline follows the survivors, reunited in the present day. Following the demise of Jacob, the island's protector, the survivors are up against the Man in Black, known previously as the Smoke Monster. A "flash-sideways" narrative also follows the lives of the main characters in a setting where Oceanic 815 never crashed. In the final episodes, a flashback to the distant past shows the origins of the island's power and of the conflict between Jacob and the Man in Black, who are revealed to be twin brothers. One survivor becomes the successor to Jacob as caretaker of the island, and kills the Man in Black in a final showdown, with the island at stake.

Well, that's all opinion and that's fine. Personally, my wife and I loved Lost and thoroughly enjoyed the series.

What's confusing people is that, I think, when you say "a show like Lost", you have a different idea than most people of what part of Lost this hypothetical show would have to emulate to be considered "like Lost". From your post above it seems you'd like a unique and original show that covers similar themes to Lost, such as spirituality; is character-driven; and is set in a somewhat fantastical world but doesn't have aliens.

To be unique and original and to be like Lost (in the ways you would wish it to be) seem to be mutually exclusive conditions to me.

Millenium had the potential to be one of the best shows ever. Still bitter they pulled the plug. So dark. One of my favorite shows of all time for sure.

Then if your question is will there ever be really good TV shows that you just have to watch every week than there have been plenty on the cable networks and a few on the networks.
