i'd like to see a show where a guy lives with two comely lasses of virtue true and each week there is some type of misunderstanding that leads to a series of humorous events - although this is a show that would be very different than lost.

i would guess at the end of the day if they figure lost made money - then somehow/somewhere a group of Tv folks are working on something similar - after if it worked once........

I really liked how they showed the island from different perspectives which made the mysteries more logical. Like- how the 'others' saw the plane crash, and Ben's perception vs the perception of the plane crash victims, etc.

While watching the series, the scene from 'Misery' with Kathy Bates kept rolling through my head, how she screamed because she was so sick of the Cliff Hangers (can't remember what she called them) every week- when someone would die driving off a cliff and then the next week they'd actually be alive because at the last minute they caught a branch before the car went crashing down.

However, I still thought it was a very good series because it made me think and it was entertaining. I watched it all at once though on Netflix, and I know lots of people who lost interest because of the scheduling problems, the waiting for shows, etc. I wasn't able to watch it while it was aired. I really did enjoy watching it all at once.

I did have to buy a book though when I was done, to talk me through some of the episodes and some of the theories.

My biggest problem with lost was the whole last season in the flash sideways was self indulgent crap.

The writers had punished these characters for 5 years giving no one anything but the briefest moment of happiness and then they caved for a happy ending wasting half of the season giving most of the characters a 'happy' ending and an alternative life they could have lived if the plane didn't crash. Then instead of having one reality being real or having some choice that the survivors had to make between the island and there own happiness they take the easy the way out and make reality and the flash sideways real.

It was cowardly and self indulgent in a show that never gave you a happy ending they caved.

As for will we ever see a show like that again I think there have already been many successful lostish clones:

Abrams Fringe has a lot of pseudoscience fiction elements and ridiculous plot twists.
Flash Forward was an attempt at a lost clone but failed
even something like 'The Event' has lostish elements.

If the question is will we ever see as successful pseudoscience fiction drama with the same level of fan involvement then probably not but Lost also started at the start of social networking, wiki's and such so it was really the first global book club of sorts which now happens to a lessor degree with every show. Since it was really the first it had 100% market share.

Not sure I agree with your assessment of the show, but I understand why you didn't like the way it went.

As for the shows you mentioned, I tried Fringe...just don't care for it. I watched Flash Forward and very much enjoyed it until they cancelled it. I am watching The Event now and like it a lot. Looks like it's going to get cancelled too...

I loved Lost, it is the only show where I wanted to watch episode after episode after episode. I watched Flash Forward and The Event and disliked both very early on. I just didn't feel that spark and with Lost..I figure credit is due to what I think is a great setting (lovely island in HD), excellent character protrayals, chemistry. It really just worked, and as new characters came in (like Juliette and Ben) I thought it just helped it sustain. For others maybe not so much and that is fine, we all have different tastes.

Lost simply had amazing characters and a story that was yes very confusing but man was it hard to stop watching, the chemistry between Ben and Locke was one you dont see too often on tv. I miss Lost very very badly.

It has the same charactor driven drama put in a crazy plot.

It is much more sci/fi though. So if you wanted a more scientific solution to lost rather than a spiritual solution you would probably like it.

Early on it was less serial though with each episode having its own independat arc but most episode add clues to the long term plot. Kind of like Babylon 5's early seasons. This past season has been more serial as they were on the verge of being cancelled and appeared to want to finish the story.

If you go in expecting lost you would probably be disappointed but it is a good show if you generally like JJ Abrams work then you will enjoy it.

I'm a giant LOST fan. Giant, I tells ya!

I tried watching Fringe. I started at the beginning of season 1, and half-way through I couldn't watch any more of it. It boiled down to a common pattern in every episode, with the cliche bumbling scientist figuring out soemthing just at the right time.

I heard they changed the formula for the show near the end of season 1, though, and started focusing on the common plot, instead of doing one-off episodes all the time. I might have to get into it, but I really disliked the first half episodes in season 1.

A great show I'm watching these days is the Killing on AMC.

I thought BSG was similar to Lost in that you were never quite sure who was good, who was bad, and who was going to get killed. It was also serialized, so tough to pick up once the first season was gone - a show that alienated it's own audience as time went on.

I tend to think Stargate Universe will be looked back on as Firefly esq - a well done show that was cancelled before it hit it's stride. Perhaps that's wishful thinking on my part, as I'm a big space sci fi nerd.

Breaking Bad took a while to hook me, and has it's lag moments, but overall is great show if you are into the dark comedy/drama - similar to Weeds in that respect.

Deadwood and Justified are the same show with the same primary actor - except for the cable/network difference. Both are fantastic BTW, and again very dark.

Will there be another Lost? Probably. For my part I hope it's "Lost in Space". Oh wait... time for a reboot!
