Had an idea!

The biggest win in all of this are all the free trade agreements that Harper was working on. All of those are going to be kept going which will result in good growth in our economy.

Every now and then I get a reminder of Canada's great potential. Today is one of those days. The first Conservative majority government in a generation. This is a wonderful opportunity for true change through smaller government and prudent fiscal management.
The utter destruction of the separatist Bloc Quebecois opposition is another important milestone. Hopefully we have turned the corner in this country. Hopefully for once and for all we can put this ridiculous era behind us, when a party that aimed to destroy the country took such a prominent role in the federal parliament.
The fall of the Liberal party is a sweet story, but I'm sure they will be back in four years with a strong and charismatic leader who will make a strong challenge. Meanwhile, the NDP as official opposition can only serve to expose their true socialist roots.
Congratulations Canada!

Personally, I think this will ultimately become a great thing for the Liberals. They needed to be truly humbled. They need to refocus themselves. And the best news for them is that they have four years now to rebuild from the ground up rather than worry about another election in 18 months. They have time to recover.
|
That was it. The Liberals ran a left leaning campaign this time around against a man who is basically Canada's guru of socialism.
They really lost their way and should have tried to sell themselves as the middle ground party. They need to stop worrying about winning or being popular and start worrying about what exactly it is they stand for and let the ideology sell itself.
They went from being what in my opinion used to be the most versatile party covering the middle range of the spectrum, to being a party that tries to mimic the other 2 parties when it suits their needs. Unfortunately for them, Canadians can see right through it and would rather vote for the real thing (ie. the Conservative or NDP).

I actually hope that Act #1 of the Hidden Agenda is that Harper does not speak a word of French in his victory speech. But I'm guessing he's classier than I am/would be.

Listening to some analysis on the radio and a good point brought up.
the one guy (forget his name...poli-sci guy) said this result can be directly traced to the attempted coalition a couple years ago. Canadians didn't want it, blamed the Liberals for it and hated that the Bloc was needed to prop it up. Look at the results tonight and it seems those that were perceived as trying to usurp the vote of a couple months earlier paid the ultimate political price. They were afraid it would happen again is one angle...and they said no way to the tune of 87 seats combined.
Makes some sense.
