Someone better tell everyone in Hawaii that has a passport then, since the certificate of live birth says right on it:
"This copy serves as prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding"
If you walk up to the appropriate office and request a birth certificate, the certificate of live birth is what you get, you cannot get the original. This was done on TV with a reporter getting a guy born within days of Obama. That's what Hawaii gives, and that's ALL they give.
Obama had to request special permission to get a copy of the long form certificate.

In McCain's case it was a question of law (or a clarification) as he was not born in the USA.
In Obama's case, they are calling him a liar or a con, big difference.
I don't know why McCain would be questioned either because he was born in an American Territory from American parents but maybe the law was fuzzy in that area. Coincidentally a number of my uncle and aunts were born in the American Canal Zone, and so had American citizenship.

This is exactly what you get in Montana, as well. When I requested my birth certificate for travel to Canada, it was a certificate of live birth. When my children were born, we completed the birth certificates in the hospital, and never saw them again. The hospital sends them to the county records office, and the county mails you a certificate of live birth. These politicians proposing new state restrictions could stand to do a little research.
If people are suggesting that there isn't a racial/cultural component behind the "birther" movement, they are either extremely naive, or are sympathetic to their views. I know, I live in a red state and hear it everyday. They have corrupted the original philosophies of the Tea Party with their social agenda, as well.
I've never voted for a Democrat for President, but the Republicans have effectively lost my vote until they pull their heads out.

The reason is the certificate only records information about a new born and can be filled out without any knowledge of where the child was born. If you lived in a remote location, or used a midwife, or delivered while out of the country you could go to a doctor and get a certificate of live birth. That form along with proof of location of birth and/or identification of the parents would be enough to get a birth certificate.
Obama's mother is thought to have been as young as 17 when she had Obama. According to State law at the time a child born to her out of country would have the same citizenship as his Father. Don't know if that was true but, it is what they were saying.
The question of John McCain's eligibilty was raised the first time he decided to run for President. His parents were both Americans but, he was born out of country on a military base. Obviously some then reasoned that natural born meant on US soil. When it was pointed out that a US base anywhere was US soil the question died.
|
Again, because this point seems to sail over your head despite the fact that it is floating by at hot air balloon pace, the nature of the 'soil' at birth doesn't mean a thing. None. At all.

That video with Obama and Seth Myers was incredible.
That lion king bit, man, had me literally laughing out loud.
Good stuff Obama, good stuff. Some of those lines were fantastic.

First off I dont think most "birthers" are like that at all.

Well, you have to admit he fits the profile pretty well.
Stupid? Check
White? Check
Racist? Check
Tea Partier? Check
The only one he doesn't admit to is being stupid, but that one is pretty obvious.

Neat "profile" you set up there. Any facts to base that on?

The guy is a self-professed Tea Partier. Tea Partiers make up the "birther" movement. Stupid White Males are birthers.
Connect the dots.

The guy is just one self-professed tea partier, out of millions.
Show everyone where being a "birther" is a part of the tea party platform.

Thanks.
Riddle me this:
Who are the "birthers"?
A) Democrats
B) Mainstream Republicans
C) Teabaggers
The answer, of course, is C.
The "birther" movement, which is made up of Teabaggers, is based on racism. Racists are, by and large, stupid people. Are all Teabaggers stupid? Nah, but being stupid sure doesn't keep you out of the movement.
Is it "fact"? Maybe not, but it is an opinion based on the evidence I've seen.
Have you even given your opinion on the matter? Do you think Obama was born in the United States? Can you give us a yay or nay on that question? Or is it still up in the air for you?

You sure do know how to be an authoritarian when your opinion deems fit.
Just fyi, every human being is technically a racist based on schematic organization developed during evolution that makes it easier to quickly process information. So I guess that deems you unfit for this conversation as well. Don't believe me? Go take a class on social psychology and evolution.

Oooooooh, impressive. You took a class on social psychology and evolution? WOW.
And my opinion is authoritarian? You got me there. I don't even know what that means.
