The problem with that ad is that it does nothing to convince me why I should vote for the Conservatives. Change nothing else except the speaker from Harper to Ignatieff or Layton, and it could just as easily be an ad for the Liberals or NDP. I'm all for positive ads promoting one's own party instead of attacking the other guys, but they should at least be about policy and platform. This piece is just content-free feel-good fluff.
I like feel good fluff.
And I think whoever made the commercial was watching the X-Men First Class trailer when they made it. That trailer was the first thing I thought of, other than Canada kicks ass, of course.
I'm starting to wonder about the national polling numbers and the NDP surge. I'm looking at 'Project Democracy's' site and they are doing some professional polls on 'close' ridings to determine who to recommend to oust Harper and surprisingly their results show that when polling on a regional level the NDP surge doesn't seem as high in these 'too close to call' ridings. Also at times it shows the conservatives showing more support than expected. This might very well be more interesting as it breaks down seat by seat and how that reconciles with the national/provincial numbers. Maybe a CPC majority might still be in the cards?
This and the fact is that this is a pure smear campaign. Basically they've been sitting on this one for weeks and were waiting until it became apparent that he was a legitimate threat.
He was never charged, and his side is that he was there for a legitimate reason. The fact that the police thought that there was more going on there doesn't reflect on him IMO.
Frankly this almost makes me want to vote NDP. I don't think that this has any place in politics, and I would be very interested in knowing which party leaked this and why.
Nor does visiting hookers, this isn't Italy!
Maybe that's how he met Olivia??
On a serious note, if this went down in 1996, Jack was a politician for the city of Toronto then. I don't see how this doesn't question his character. It's not like it can be dismissed as 'Young and stupid.' If it were reversed and Harper was involved, this would be national news and you would be ranting and raving about the Conservative's poor ethics. And trust me, if any of the parties had evidence of even a reasonable doubt that Harper saw hookers at any point in his life, it would be leaked by Jack, Ignatieff, or Duceppe.
So let me get this straight: SUN TV - essentially in the tank for the Conservatives since day one - just happens to uncover some maybe-important, probably-not dirt on the Tories' biggest rival two days before the election? Sounds like something Fox News would do...

Is anyone going to provide a link to actual corroboration that this is true by a reputable news source? Otherwise, we're just dealing with a whisper-smear campaign.

I can honestly say that I really don't care what Harper did in his private life 15 years ago or even last week. I evaluate political candidates solely based on their policies and platforms.

If there were any charges or any wrong doing at all then I could see your point. Otherwise the guy is there for a massage (which is his story, but obviously the officer believed him or would've charged him?). I fail to see how this is news-worthy except to try to smear a guy just as his popularity increases and he becomes a threat?

To be fair, the police officer at the scene was interviewed and the notes taken and kept on police record were photocopied, so it's not like this is made up. The police officer himself said that he was surprised that it took this long for the story to break because everyone in the police force knew about it.

A police officer can't charge a guy just because he believes that he is guilty. He said that had he walked in on a sex act, then he would have charged Layton. Instead, he walked in on Layton lying on his back, naked in a bed with the masseuse throwing a kleenex in the garbage. That's not enough proof for anything, so he gave him a talking to and then let him go.
lol funniest part of that article:
Quote:
"I remembered lecturing him on a lot of these triads, they'd videotape the customers and extort them afterwards. Jack went pale. I said to him you have to understand it's quite possible," he says.

I'm with everyone that it's just SUN TV right now. Biased and questionable indeed. Only if it's authenticated by someone else does this become an issue. As for the cop, unless he/she figures there's enough evidence to charge him do they charge him. Doesn't say anything about their personal beliefs. As for it's importance, wouldn't it be more important for a leader of a party that proposses so many woman's rights issues that they not have a leader that is found in a bawdy house?
