Exactly, the version he produced long ago was the only copy legally meaningful. The original was archived and had no legal meaning anymore and was never given out anymore, but now he's produced that (and had to get special permission to do so). There are no other birth certificates to release.
Best term I've heard referring to Trump today: prancing moron.
Anyone dealing with prancing morons knows though, don't feed the trolls. Today they've been fed.
And this is the best comment I read about the whole disgraceful episode:
"Conspiracy theories simply do not die when presented with evidence — they absorb the evidence and claim that it's further evidence of an even more elaborate conspiracy."
Sad but true. It's going on right in this thread.

the most depressing thing about all of this is that trump is being taken seriously by some and that he's running for president. He won't get elected, but if he did, the world would end in a nuclear war in a year. A garden gnome would be a better president.
I think this is 100% a put on by Trump. He doesn't believe it at all. 5 years ago all his positions were reversed. I think he was a member of Ralph Nader's Green Party.

I think Trump will make noise, and will be a factor well into the race - while Paul will remain the red-headed stepchild of the Party.
I really hope I'm wrong though.
Just to add to this, there is a reason Ron Paul is the red headed step-child of the Republican Party.
He has always advocated against the Federal Reserve System. He has even tried to get the Fed audited, but his bill failed, and you know he won't be getting any contributions from the Wall Street lobby (unlike Goldman Sachs wonder-child Obama).
This is the most genius political move I've seen from the Obama white house.
Now Trump suddenly appears to be a serious candidate. He's the immediate front-runner in the race, but of course, he's not a serious candidate. It would be a monumental disaster for the Republican party to even THINK about nominating him ... but they're about to.
All the Birthers, who aren't going away att all, (for some hugely terrifying reading, check out some of the responses in this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2711155/posts it starts getting good in the 500's) are going to embrace Trump and continue to give him high poll numbers.
As a fan of Obama's, I freaking LOVE this, this is some Karl Rove action.

I would agree that this is a pretty bright move to make Trump look like he's legitimate. However if anyone thinks the Trump would ever win the Republican nomination they're as crazy as his hairstyle.
Trump won't run for president, he has too many skeletons in his closet and even he knows that.
Like I mentioned the Republicans really need to seriously find a decent middle ground candidate to take on Obama who I think has been a less then inspiring president.

Some of those comments are idiotic. Paraphrasing:
"This still doesn't prove that he isn't a muslim."
"Shouldn't the race of the father say negro (instead of African) if it was real?"

One of my clients is a hardcore birther. Ex-corporate finance type and so, therefore, not a hillbilly dummy. I can only give him a blank stare and an off-putting smirk when he brings it up, hoping thats enough to make it go away.
But you never know on what topics certain personalities will take leave of common sense. They don't have to be stupid or racist. That's a misconception.
Generally, one-third of people are susceptible to not just one conspiracy, but several, and what they may believe will have something to do with their political point of view. A sizeable chunk of Democrats believe GW Bush had some part in the 9-11 attack while nearly half of Republicans believe there is something to the Obama birther controversy.
Fortunately, the majority of people have sufficient sense to believe neither.
