Because it is distracting too many politicians from real work.

Unfortunately, nothing will satisfy these birther monkeys. Ignoring them for three years hasn't helped, so now he's trying this. Obama tries way too hard to appease Republicans anyway, so I'm not very surprised he did this.

Oh crap I guess this guy has to go to war:

Quote:
Now comes word that U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook, a reservist who lives in Florida, is challenging his deployment based on that argument. Reports the Ledger-Enquirer out of Columbus, Georgia: "Cook's lawyer, Orly Taitz, who has also challenged the legitimacy of Obama's presidency in other courts, filed a request last week in federal court seeking a temporary restraining order and status as a conscientious objector for his client."

Cook is arguing that because Mr. Obama isn't really the president (and thus isn't the commander in chief), the soldier "would be acting in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President's command. ... simultaneously subjecting himself to possible prosecution as a war criminal by the faithful execution of these duties."

This doesn't shut up Trump, it actually strengthens Trumps hand in the Repugs, which is tactically brilliant by who ever advised Obama, Trump is unelectable outside of the right wing wackos. If Trump makes a strong run it will split the republicans apart and damn near kill them.

Completely wrong.

Here's what he's produced in the past:

http://www.factcheck.org/UploadedFil...tificate_3.jpg

What he's produced in the past is the short form document, exactly what anyone can legally obtain in Hawaii and exactly what anyone with one would need to verify citizenship, get a passport, etc, because it's the only thing Hawaii gives out at this time.

What he produced today is different, as is apparent just by comparing them. What he produced today is the original long form document.

Except the CPers that live in Hawaii. Any CPer that lived in Hawaii would go down to the proper office, request their birth certificate, and would get exactly what Obama produced years ago, the only certified copy legally recognized. Heck CNN just did it on camera with a guy born with a guy born within days of Obama in Hawaii. They got the CLOB short form that Obama produced.

So of course he can't produce it, he can't get it. He had to write in and get a special concession to get the long form to be released! What's better, a president who follows the laws of the land? Or a president who gets special treatment not given to regular citizens?

You can read the letters making the request here:

Because it's not a legal document today. It's like asking someone for their driver's licence from 15 years ago, it's not valid.

Not true. There's no chance Trump will come out of primaries. Just no chance. Look at his history. It's surprisingly democrat. Supporting, at one time, single payer health, supporting abortion. He's unelectable to his own supporters. It's just theatre.

Birth certificates here don't come from the hospital, at least not in recent times. The hospital sends the birth information to the government where it is registered, and then the parents go to a registry and request a copy of the birth certificate, and get it in the mail a week or so later. It also isn't issued automatically - you have to actually request (and pay for) it.

I think thats the point, the better Trump does the better it is for Obama, Trump is a buffoon, his campaign further alienates moderate republicans that look at the Tea Party and the Palin bid as a painfull joke on them.

He's paving the way for Palin, who supported his birther efforts.

Oh to have Palin in another national election.. one can't even dare to hope for that much fun twice in a lifetime.

Actually this does 2 things for Trump, it gives him a 'victory' to make him seem more credible as a politician but it also allows him to abandon the birther issue (claiming to have solved it) and start to appeal to the more moderate repugs now that he has the inbred trailor park crazies under his wing.

One might think, but I guess not.

Trump has about as much chance as Palin of getting the nomination.

I'm surprised any of you are taking him seriously. The man is a buffoon and is not fit to lead a nation.

I know you think we're all stupid, but those of us that are don't make up enough of the population to give either Trump or Palin a legitimate shot.

agreed. I would really like to see a fiscal conservative in the Whitehouse; unfortunately, the GOP is filled with and surrounded by morons

I don't think for a moment either Trump or Palin get the nomination, but their 'success' at this stage does alienate large parts of the moderate republican base. The better they do the more they divide the republicans ergo the better it is for the democrats.

I find it mildly amusing that Obama released the Certificate to curb the "distracted" republicans from focusing on the more important things....

and then some republican criticized him for taking the time and effort to release his birth certificate and not focusing on the more important things.

It also seems the GOP would only nominate a fiscal conservative that is also a social conservative.

Not a flaw in a Republican primary.

But you're right, this is sort of like Jesse Jackson leading in the polls of Democratic polls back in '92. I don't think Trump is all that serious about running. It's all about publicity with Trump even if he has to race bait.

I think Romney Bob Doles this election and Obama wins somewhat easily. We will see. I don't see anyone threatening to Obama at this stage even with the economy still struggling.
