Why did they go after AP, but not UB? They are owned by the same company.

So, for me PokerStars app is working (thanks Canadian govt) and noticed you can still get to pokerstars.eu - also withdrew a big chunk of my cash - just in case - left enough to have fun

I hope the Americans get their online gambling worked out. I think they are missing out on a tonne of tax revenue by not having something in the USA that is legal and conforms to their gambling laws.

I've gone back to the forums I used to frequent when I was more into online poker. I forgot how horrible of people poker players generally are. Lots of denial and ill-informed speculation on the financial side of this. One of the hilarious thing about pro poker players is they think because they are good at poker they are experts in finance and government.

All the poker pros are going to lose money from losing sponsorship deals. Bad news considering a lot of them aren't even that good at poker.

so for anyone who doesn't know what actually has happened:

1.A few years back the States made online gambling illegal, sort of. The gambling sites weren't technically supposed to operate but the laws were very unclear and there was no enforcement of the laws.
2. The major banks didn't want to do transactions with the major sites so they figured out a way to prop up small local banks around the country that were willing to do the online transactions with the agreement that the poker sites would invest in and support the banks.
3. The big sites set up a bunch of accounts with all these little banks and did the transactions under fraudulent terms (e.g. claiming a deposit was from selling golfballs online, no joke).
4. These kind of tactics were deemed as fraudulent and money laundering (among other things) and the FBI allowed it to go on long enough for them to cement a case that will stick to the major sites and their owners so that the laws created a few years ago that were unenforceable are now put into action. The main guy who was behind the scenes who came up with the idea of using small banks for the transactions basically worked for both Stars and FT and about 3 weeks ago he ratted out the owners of both to save his own neck.
5. Who knows what the hell happens now.

There is a good chance the sites will go down globally in the next few days if the FBI manages to gain control of the servers, whether the money is save or not is unclear. the sites have said it is, obviously, but if the FBI does get to the Isle of Man anything could happen. There is going to be some serious jailtime handed out, online poker may be legalized or completely shutdown in the US.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they aren't very good but being a hack myself and out lasting a few of them in tourneys it brings in the old equation of how much this game is luck or skill, from what I saw was mostly the so called pro's just try to bully...something that I never fell for or ever will.

Pokerstars says it's business as usual for any non-US players.

Don't be a dick.

Not in comparison to me but a lot of them have a hard time beating the games they say they are experts in. Phil Gordon is the example that comes immediately to mind. Some of them haven't kept their games that sharp because of the sponsorships or got lucky and won a big tournament. Of course they are all better than I.

For anyone that wants to the new update on full tilt, just go to fulltiltpoker.co.uk and download it again. It will install the new update.

That's not quite true. Most of the older sponsored pros were full ring limit specialist. When the fish left for No limit, their games dried up. The smart ones used their name to keep making money. The ones that weren't so smart....

Got this email today and my account is all good!

Quote:
Dear csnarpy,

Unfortunately, due to recent legal developments in the United States, Full Tilt Poker is currently unable to facilitate ‘real money’ play from players based there. This restriction solely affects players in the United States. For players in the rest of the world, play continues as normal and no such restrictions apply.

Please rest assured that all funds remain safe and secure and our technical and support teams are on hand to resolve any additional issues.

One such issue being addressed is the automatic software update; if you are experiencing any difficulty updating your game software we recommend installing the latest version of the game by visiting http://www.fulltiltpoker.co.uk/ and clicking the red ‘Play Now’ button.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the disruption to our .com website and support email addresses. #

Please contact support@fulltiltpoker.co.uk with any queries not addressed above - we are working hard to resolve a large volume of queries in a timely manner and appreciate your patience in this regard.

Thank you again for your understanding,

Full Tilt Poker

Received a similar one from pokerstars and I'm not buying it. I withdrew all my cash today. While I was on it was all Europeans and non-English chat going on, no thanks.

If everything for Pokerstars is normal for people outside of US, why can't i connect?? I just have a status bar going back and forth when trying to connect. It's very frustrating.

Apologies if there's an explanation earlier in the thread. Was looking for a quick answer.
