Yeah no kidding... I supported Pashak simply because I don't think any of the old guard are worth keeping. It appears Pashak would have been a narrow minded moron on the council as well... fun. How the hell is the underpass a "disaster" to downtown residents?

Hope my ward gets a decent candidate next go around. Sadly I think Nenshi is a rare exception - politics rarely attracts intelligent people.

It isn't in downtown! How do you support something that isn't in your neighbourhood! If I can't use it every day on my commute to work it's useless.

On that note...maybe DCU would have voted yes for the tunnel if they rejected the Shawnee Slopes application that night.

When the election race was on, Pashak also advised me that he didn't want to see any work done on the Bow/Crow/Memorial clusterfata that is there now. And upgrading that intersection would be a HUGE improvement to the dowmtown infrastructure.

I think he is just vehemently against funding any road based infrastructure.

Too bad Chris Harper in Ward 1 didn't get in... Even though I am in Ward 8 I had the privilege of going to the Ward 1 aldermanic forum and he really impressed me. Had a great discussion during the break. And more recently I have been following him on Twitter, and he even thanked me for following him.

Actually the new Aldermen that were elected for the most part seem really Strong and are trying to do the best for the City... it is some of the incumbents that seem stirring up all the trouble.

I tend to agree. My new alderman, Carra, appears to be doing well enough, I'm moderately pleased. Still have to keep an eye out, though.

Something interesting to note, the Feds are giving Halifax airport $9M to extend their runway. That is about 32% of the total cost. Yet we have heard nothing about any funding for the new parallel runway. What gives?

Perhaps if the airport authority knew they had some federal money coming in they could have been easier to play ball with for negotiations for this underpass?

Well apparently Zak has sold Broken City and is off to Detroit to run for mayor, no joke.

How about they give us 32% of the total cost here?

I flew back into YYC last night, drove Barlow south around 9pm just for kicks.

Now lets get 16L/34R up and running!

Any update on whether this tunnel is actually going ahead? Last I heard there was some issue with the airport authority?

I drove down Barlow yesterday morning for old time's sake. What a poopshow - cars in the ditch, hard to make out lanes. I still felt good doing it because I'm going to hate driving to the airport now. Always had McKnight/Barlow as the alternative if Deerfoot was backed up (you can see it from McKnight eastbound) ... alas, no way now to avoid it unless I feel like going all the way over to 36th.

I always enjoyed being welcomed on Barlow Trail by those cartoon hats and whatnot on those silos. With Airport Trail you get welcomed by tractors and views of crappy suburbs....it's just not the same.

People who are against the tunnel only need to drive the Deerfoot this morning to realize why we need it, not just for the commute to the airport. As the city grows even more, it's only going to get worse. Having alternate routes available is always a good thing.

Kinda funny how it takes 3 full years to build 4kms of asphalt. I kinda get why it takes that long, but just a bit quirky considering we can build a ring road within the same timeframe which takes up ~20kms or more each leg.
