It's not at all that I'm disappointed with the iPad 2! We hooked it up to a tv and started playing around. Seeing as my wife is a teacher I see a big benefit to being able to do that for a class or presentation.
My issue is that when the Apple TV came out everybody immediately questioned the lack of apps. I wasn't big into the debate, but I did think it would be an easy enough task. Plugging the iPad into a tv though has given me reason to question it though. Sure some apps work great, but the majority have issues that become immediately apparent.
The biggest problem is that if the app demands a fair amount of touches to navigate, it becomes more useless because you aren't able to look at the tv anymore. TV apps need to have button presses, and if your app is designed with a touch interface, that changes the game up quite a bit.
I no longer think it's as easy to just port apps over... they need to be redesigned from the ground up in many cases. Sure there are the streaming ones that would work well on a tv (hulu, cbc, global etc.), but when it comes to those services they work anyway via airplay. The latest update that allows apps to send video to the apple tv almost kills the necessity for tv apps imo.
