If I were them I would be trying not to mention that call at all, just more arrogance.

Speaking of arrogance, heres what Xavi had to say....:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...otball?cc=5901

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns...s-exit?cc=5901

Lots of interesting stuff in there. No shortage of controversy at any rate.

One thing I will say though is that as much as I really dont have any love for Arsenal, I really, really dislike Barcelona. They're just far too arrogant for my liking and they get away with murder. Everyone wants them to win and does what it takes to make that happen and thats detrimental to the game.
Yeah of course. The ref makes a horrible decision and then the victimized team gets in trouble for pointing out his incompetence.

Pretty laughable, and seems to often be the case in football. The ref's decision was indeed a joke and he deserves every ounce of criticism for it. He should be the one charged with misconduct. UEFA should apologize to football fans for impacting the on pitch competition.

As for Xavi, he can just STFU. Barcelona are quickly becoming my most hated team in football, and that's saying something considering the rivalries that exist in England. They've always been an arrogant organization, even the way they always act as if Cesc Fabregas is their player. Barca's win has an asterix beside it, and it always should. Hopefully Xavi is right and football does have justice, then these punks will lose out in the next round.

The pairings from the quarter-finals onwards are determined by an open draw in which no teams are seeded and clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other. The side drawn first will play the first leg at home. The last-four fixtures are also determined while an additional draw will define whether the winner of semi-final 1 or the winner of semi-final 2 will be considered, for administrative purposes, the home side in the final.
used to be you couldn't play a team from the same country until SF's, now you can

So Spurs have essentially succeeded at what Arsenal tried to do yesterday. It is deemed a great defensive performance, while Arsenal are deemed an embarrassment (by some members of the media) for not trying to play football with Barca.

Spurs wanted a defensive game and they got it. I thought the second half was better than the first. Modric looked pretty good on the touches he had. It's a shame Crouch couldn't finish today.

The Spurs were much closer to AC Milan than Arsenal were to Barcelona and considering that Spurs were successful at what they did and Arsenal were not of course they are going to get more praise.

you nailed it with tried, Spurs succeeded and Arsenal didn't, not trying to start an argument just pointing out why Spurs will be praised for their performance and Arsenal wont

they didn't allow the team at the top of the Serie A table to score over 180 minutes

and for a team that gets roundly criticized for their defense, its a great performance, very resilient

but it's all perception, if Nicky scores yesterday than Arsenal gets praised as well

I don't think Spurs go spouting off incessantly about playing a beautiful attacking game. That might have something to do with it...

Congrats to the Spuds - had Arsenal approached the Group phase with the same level of professionalism instead of resting players prior to the Group being in the bag, we would not have been facing Barcelona so early in the competition.

Alright, 'great defensive performance.'

Really? While AC are not Barca, is England the 'best' league in the world because they know where to park the bus?

Obviously Spurs knew that they could not compete with AC even at home and so didnt even try, they parked the bus, held marginal possession and managed at least 1 shot on target forcing Abbiati into actually making a save. Kind of.

Okay, that was a tongue-in-cheek paragraph obviously, but you see the point, two of England's top teams mustered a single shot on goal between them and put together ?

Not exactly a banner couple of matches for English football. No disrespect to either team, it just sucks when you see a country's top teams basically show up with no intent to play and no intent to win, but just content not to lose.

To be fair, Spurs' defense has been inconsistent all year and our strikers have been awful. Going down early to Milan could've been disastrous.

it's what happens in cup competitions though, its how Inter won it last year

its how Man U and Chelsea have made finals

its not just English teams though, Madrid will do it if they have a lead, Inter would as well, and I very much doubt Bayern traded chances with Inter next week
