When I was in Vancouver for school, I had people throwing things at me and swearing at me when I had my Flames jersey on. It was expected, no point in getting upset and crying over it.
I am Canucks fan who is visiting Calgary this week. When I was walking along Macleod Trail South near Southland Avenue around 5 pm on Sunday March 6th a driver in a beat up Pontiac Grand-Am flipped the bird at me. The whole reason this d-bag did it was because I had a Canucks jersey and scarf on. I don't mind getting teased with clever insults but it just seems pathetic to randomly flip the bird at someone because you don't like the team they cheer for. Anyway, I still have enjoyed my time so far in Calgary. Almost everyone I have encountered has been friendly and courteous.
Have you not seen how opposing fans are treated in Vancouver?
After a nucks game, we walked to Robson, where we were challenged to fights on 3 seperate occasions. Not only that, but one guy actually tackled a friend while we were crossing the street. All of this happened while we minded our own business walking to the bar.
Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada aka Flames Country

To the OP:
Did you, by any chance, expect symphathy from Flames fan over this?
Quite honestly, if I was walking around Vancouver wearing my Flames jersey, I'd expect someone to flip me the bird. What would I do? I'd shrug it off and carry on with my day. You make it sound like this guy did a really horrible thing.
That's fine, but don't complain when some d-bag in Vancouver flips the bird at you simply because you are wearing a Flames jersey.
I live in Van and they do it all the time... even had some d bag walk by me, and whisper a profanity towards the Flames then ran off like a little coward laughing and acting all cool trying to impress his gf.
Went to a pre season game and had someone throw a hot dog at me... and he missed wildely, had insults thrown at me left and right.
During the Olympics, after Canada won the Gold. I wore my Flames jersey and got challenged several times to a fight, cursed at, flipped off all by the classy Vancouver fans.
Your wearing Canucks gear in Calgary, what do you think would happen?
Not really sure what the big deal is. Try wearing Red Sox gear in the Bronx. Or better yet see what sort of abuse you get wearing Celtic or Rangers kit in the wrong part of Glasgow. One would be lucky to escape with a bit of verbal abuse hurled from passing vehicles.
I am not asking for sympathy. Notice I didn't generalize and say its all Flames fans who act his way. All I am saying is that if you want to insult me for wearing a Canucks jersey, say it to my face. Don't flip the bird from a passing vehicle like a coward simply because you hate the team somebody cheers for.
The same thing is going to happen to any Calgary fan in Vancouver. It's just inevitable. Getting flipped the bird from passing vehicles is relatively harmless and good fun.
Actually having someone telling it to your face and getting into an in-person confrontation is much worse. I don't see how it could be better.
WTH. Really? I've been flipped the bird for a lot less than wearing a jersey. If I cried every time someone flipped me the bird, I'd be drowning in an Olympic-sized pool of sorrow.

Contemplate that on the tree of woe
