Okay so they're passionate about music. Maybe you bore them while you talk about the latest fashion trend, the ipad, widgets, nickelback, or whatever you're interested in.

I completely agree with this as well, except Metric and their fans don't fit that description at all. They're one of the largest bands in Canada, have been around for 10 years, and I don't think the indie, hipster type fans your referring to even like them.
The Indie kids are really annoying, but on the other side of the coin so are the people who label any band they haven't heard of as indie and their fans as hipsters who only like music no one has heard of. I guess it's some internal complex where they don't want to admit they aren't engaged at all in current mainstream Canadian music; and just be ok with that.

I don't understand the "never heard of them" complaint. Every band you like was unknown to you at some point.

Bruce Springsteen? He's the guy that sings "Jesse's Girl," right?

My buddy gave me a Metric ticket for free like five years ago when someone cancelled on him last minute.
I hadn't listened to them very much but a free ticket is a free ticket. They were awesome live. Pretty much made me a fan on the spot.

I'm probably one of the most out of touch people when it comes to music. With satellite radio, I never listen to regular stations. I never watch Much Music or MTV and don't watch a lot of TV. My only exposure to music is through friends, movies and AMG recommendations (ie. "If you like _______, then try this...). The fact that I listen to a lot indie or small label stuff if completely situational. I also listen to a lot of 60s and 70s stuff because I grew up on it.
I have heard of musicians like Kanye West, Usher, john Mayer, Drake, but I honestly have no idea what their songs are, and I imagine a lot of their fans would be shocked by that because they are supposedly awesome (or at least that is what people say). I was excited that something I like and am familiar with was being invited into a large mainstream venue, and I guess I was offended when some people said that they don't belong. I know that I shouldn't really care.

I've had Metric stuck in my head on a continual loop ever since the Heritage Classic. That's a good thing.

I'm a big fan of Metric and I thought they did a pretty good job. One thing to remember is that watching a band play a big venue on TV will always look and sound a bit off. Part of it's being there.
I do think Calgary, or the Flames, or the NHL or whomever was in charge of doing the entertainment hit the nail on the head with their selections. You got decent and interesting bands on the way up instead of just trying to go for the overhyped flavor or the month or ancient 70's has-beens. A nice in-between that made sure a lot of demographics could be interested and brought in bands that wouldn't try and overplay the game or moment.

Not to bump an argument, but does anyone know what the song "Stadium Love" is supposed to be about? I heard something about it on X92.9 once, but I can't seem to find it on a search.

songmeanings.net is a great site for ideas on what a song is about. Found this on Stadium Love:

Quote:
This article is posted in Metric's Official Site. Emily explains the meaning of Stadium Love:
“I had just gotten back from Coachella, and I walked into the studio and noticed on the bulletin board that Joules had written ‘spider vs bat,’ i think he had been obsessively watching all these National Geographic animals-fighting-each-other-videos in his hotel room. For me, that phrase triggered an entire narrative that was about a gladiator-style enormo-dome where everything turns in on itself, with every form of aggression on display for spectators: monster trucks ramming into each other, bull fighting, sweaty men wrestling. And then you have these animals completely disconnected from the logic of their natural habitat, so you have a swan pecking the #### out of an elephant and pigs biting the necks out of tigers, and bats attacking spiders. And then in the seats, the spectators are kicking the #### out of each other too. There’s this completely blurred line between spectator and participant, and we’re all trapped in this ####ed up Noah’s Ark. The images came to me all at once, and I wrote the lyrics on the spot.”
