I hardly recognized you with your new avatar.. I was thinking that the crowd was inappropriate too in the beginning until I heard the speech. I don't think the crowd new how to react.

The cheering and clapping at a memorial was strange alright.
The bullet traveled from back to front right through the entire left side of her brain coming out just above her eye. Apparently they have the top of her scull in storage, they'll put it back on in about 3 months IIRC

I thought President Obama was visibly uncomfortable with the cheering as he took the stage and began his speech. He did an outstanding job of bringing the appropriate reverance that had been missing until he took the stage.
The University did a disservice to the families by allowing students free reign in the arena.
The cheering turned from uncomfortable to appropriate after Obama made it so.

Today, less than a week after the shooting in Tucson, Rush Limbaugh was attacking the Sheriff for his comments the day of the shooting. The outro to commercial he played "I shot the sheriff". I'm sure someone is going to try and defend that?

Everyone with any sort of intellect knows that the reason people like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter (or Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson) do things like that is because they want a reaction- just like the one you're giving him.

Why were you listening to Limbaugh?

Defending Rush by marginalizing his impact is missing the point of the thread, IMHO.

Not defending him, nor 'marginalizing' his impact. Just saying that him and others (notice I mentioned three others), use these tactics as a way of gaining attention.
The point of the thread (I thought) was that politics shouldn't be involved when it comes to the fact that a crazy idiot killed several people and injured several others. Rush Limbaugh and every other sensationalist are going to keep doing what they do to get ratings. It's up to people to decide whether or not to pay attention.

The difference in this instance, is that Rush along with Palin and the tea party was invited to this political spitting match.
The Sheriff used his office and his first media scrum to attack political foes. The New York times quickly followed him up with a suggestion that Palin, Rush, talk radio, and the tea party were indirectly responsible for this tragedy. They both were wrong.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to come to the defense of Limbaugh. Pretty predictable too.
If the Sheriff was so wrong why would state Police chiefs support the Sheriff's claims? What is amazing is four state Republicans quit their jobs this past week out of fear for their lives because of the vitriol and rhetoric coming from the Tea Party in Arizona, fed by local (Hayworth) and national (Limbaugh and Beck) personalities. Why would these people quit if there wasn't a problem?

It'd be pretty cool if they pull this off

A top Republican on Friday embraced a Democratic proposal to project a sense of national unity by having members of their respective parties sit together at President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address to Congress on Jan. 25

They should draw numbers for seats. Make it a big television event.

Cops tend to stick together. I would be very suprised to see a Police chief speak out against a fellow cop.
Can you explain to me why if the political environment is that explosive that this police chief didn't have at least one police officer at a public event put on by their congresswomen?
His department also had a history with the shooter and for the most part did nothing. If he had been charged when he made those threats perhaps his own lawyer or the judge could have sought a mental evaluation.
Hopefully the 4 State Republicans who quit their jobs this week had more motivation than fear. Public figures have been getting death threats since the republic began. Yet very little has ever transpired. When something has occured it is just as likely that the guy is a loon as he has a political grudge.
Don't you find it strange that they picked this week to quit in fear over tea party threats when no tea party threat has ever been acted on outside of threatening to vote their canadates in? Also how do they know that the people making these threats are tea party members?
Hatred of earmarks, the expansion of big government, soaring debt, government health care, government bail outs, ect. is not confined to the tea party. Most Americans are mad at the status quo.

Looking at pictures of George W from 2000, and then in 2008 when he left office is astounding.
