So what happens now? Does the NFL overreact and change their playoff format? Do we want this?

I don't think so, especially considering the rest of the sports world still maintains the same policy. It's unfortunate and will make for a pretty ugly playoff game, but I still believe you need to be rewarded for winning your division.

Perhaps they could allow the division winners to host their first game, then re-seed by record after that?

I think they will consider any division winner with a losing record be allowed into the playoffs, but not host the WC game. So in this instance NO would host Seattle and then everything else stays the same. That being said Im not sure they do anything...as this is one instance in the history of the league its happened, a rather large anomily.

Here are the teams that will fire coaches or need a coach by the end of the week:
Miami
Cleveland
Cincinnati
Oakland
And possibly Tennessee

The Dolphins are drafting in the 14 or 15 spot come April. Looks like there are 7 teams picking ahead of the Fins need a franchise QB:, Bills, Bengals, Cards, 49ers, Washington, Vikings and Carolina.
Is that all of them? Not sure if they will draft a QB.

I would have to say under too. Especially with Garrett and Frazier staying on.
Teams should think twice about panic coaching changes. With the pool of potential candidates being so small how can you be sure your move is an upgrade? I heard on the radio this morning that Holmgren might replace Mangini with Marty Morningwhig. Seriously? I mean if you're firing someone to hire someone like Morningwhig or Wade Phillips or Brad Chrildress why bother?

You can add Carolina and San Fran to that list as well..as they already dont have permanent coaches in place. Arizona is another possibility as it appears they may need to start over completely.
Coughlin, Kubiak, and Turner are all safe for this season, so the list is a bit shorter than I would have thought a week ago.

I think Mornhingweg would be a decent HC after gaining so much experience since his last gig at that spot. I mean, it was the Lions he was with before...and they made several good football guys look like inept fools over the last decade. Cleveland needs an offensive minded guy IMO, and he fits that bill quite well.
As for the other 2, good co-ordinaters but not HC material at all.

Odds to win it all released...
New England 13 to 10
Pittsburgh 5-1
Atlanta 5-1
Chicago 10-1
Green Bay 10-1
New Orleans 12-1
Philadelphia 12-1
Baltimore 15-1
Indianapolis 18-1
NY Jets 25-1
Kansas City 40-1
Seattle 150-1
Interesting to me that besides the obvious odds on KC and Seattle, Vegas sees the Jets as the longest shot. And gamblers must be doing a double take seeing they can get 18-1 odds on Peyton Manning.

If I was a Ravens fan I would be pretty optimistic after watching the Chiefs pass protection (or lack there of) yesterday. All the Ravens have to do to prepare for this game is watch tape of the Chiefs in SD and the game yesterday. Chiefs could not run the ball or protect the QB for more than 1.5 seconds in either of those games.

More than anything the Chiefs are in tough because they NEED to run the ball to have success and the Ravens are a beast against the rush. Tough match up for KC to be sure.

NFL network reporting that even if Sparano is fired, Cowher may not be the replacement. It sounds like he wants at least 7 mill a season and complete control of football operations, something Ross may not want to give him.

The bengals are most likely going to stick with Carson Palmer for the next couple seasons at least and the Panthers just drafted Jimmy Claussen last year so I doubt they'll draft a new QB this year but you never know.

If the Chiefs lose (which is the likely scenario, although anything can happen) they will set an NFL record for most consecutive playoff loses. They are currently at 6 consecutive playoff loses.

It's no secret that if you take away the run the Chiefs will lose but many teams this year could not accomplish that. The Raiders didn't respect the pass and played man coverage all day while stacking the box. Elite QB's usually have no problems picking apart Raiders man coverage schemes but average ones like Cassel tend to have issues especially when facing constant pressure which was the case in both meetings this year. If the Ravens can stop the run they should win the game but their offense kind of scares me as it's not as good as it should be (22 ranked) so if the game turns into a low scoring affair in the cold it may favour the better rushing team (KC).

NBA actually doesn't seed division winners above others. The Hawks were the #3 seed last year and didn't win their division.

And I think Palmer is done with the Bengals. I just hope he doesn't end up in Miami.

That will all depend on who's running the team. Lewis appears to be out so if I was an incoming coach Palmer is a lot safer than some of the other journeyman QB's that will be on the market. Chad Johnson is the player that needs to (and likely will be) shown the door. Extremely selfish player with declining skills IMO.
