cause it cost money to cover Korea with an English reporter it is much cheaper to report on Palin's tweets and a "ground zero" mosque

I think it could be one of our society's biggest problems, to be honest.

It contributes to the dumbing down of our population. People need to be informed and yes I'm including Canada in my generalization.

The more people are informed the better for everybody. Another reason why Wikileaks is important in my mind, when the truth is exposed, real problems can be fixed and power marginalized.

You've got a potential nuclear war, or according to one of the state's involved, an inevitable nuclear war, and our media isn't really covering it because of cost?? American news outlets are bordering on propaganda in the U.S. these days. Actually they have been for a few years now.

Brutal. Goebbels would be proud.

Modern media is a joke. The reporting biz is a mere shadow of its former self and ideals.

I would actually guess not a bluff.

The requirements for building a bomb aren't that complex. From my understanding its either building a internal facing shaped charge to crush a ball of bomb material to the size of a walnut, or driving one chunk of bomb material into another causing a nuclear reaction.

The North Korean's have the personal and the scientific community to build a bomb, and they basically don't feed their people, so they have the money for bomb development.

I have no doubt that Kim and his son are pursuing a bomb.

The other frightening thought is that the initial test was a test of a primary device, from there its not a big jump to a multi-stage or thermonuclear device which is usually 100 kt to a megatonne.

I don't know why they are so concerned about Iran having nukes when North Korea is just loaded with them. Oh riiiiight NK must not have enough oil and minerals....

Something disturbing I read about North Korea, is that when food shortages occur (don't remember how often), cannabalism has become a more popular trend...

That is just nasty...

Sadly this is so true. But that's what happens when 5 corporations produce 90% or more of everything Americans see and hear.

Exactly, more than likely NK only used about a pound of uranium for the device test, I think a 20 mega tonne bomb needs about 15 pounds.

It's disappointing. You have a bat-**** crazy dictator handing off his regime to a son who wants to make his mark on the world. What better way than igniting a war and demonstrating the north's power?

I don't buy that this is a bluff that can be disregarded. At this point any threats or quotes need to be taken as serious as possible and I think all countries interested in peace need to get really bloody serious really fast, and start putting the pressure on China. This is ridiculous. Even if N Korea is only "potentially" nuclear capable- they appear willing and ready to drop them.

How is this not front page red alert news? The US and many other countries are going to be involved here.
Christmas time, bad economy, not to hip president, ect

Some much crap is going on now with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that the Americans don't want nor Care about Korea.

I hope to god that this doesn't lead to a war. If it does lead to a war I hope to god that we stay away from it.

Russians and Chinese are much more concerned about this then the US is and rightfully so because if the sh*t hits the fan, its going all over those two.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12029875

Due to existing alliances, the US will automatically goto war with the NK if SK is attacked. We also do have a 57 year old UN alliance with SK, but whether we would send troops seems highly unlikely given our current military status.

If there wasn't a war when nuclear weapons weren't going to be involved, why would there be a war when nukes could be used?

A nuclear armed nation is also a legitimate nuclear target. People forget that.

This is a MAD situation and safer than its ever been because of it.

This situation is getting about as much attention as it deserves, which is, frankly, a lot more than you're crediting.

This is just another in a long list of cries for attention by the North Korean regime, which has every resemblance to a mafia set-up.

They'll be persuaded to "calm down," crying and whining the entire time about how put-upon they are.

Frankly, they'd crap their pants if South Korea ever started shooting back because once it starts, there's only one way it's going to end, with North Korea ceasing to exist and, the most important point of all, the power-brokers of the North would be on trial as criminals if they weren't already torn to shreds by their own population like Ceaucescu.

Pfffft. Relax. All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again.

South Korea orders residents to take shelter.

Quote:
South Korea ordered residents of Yeonpyeong Island and four border islands to take shelter Monday as it prepared to start military exercises that have raised fears of a new conflict with North Korea.
In addition to Yeonpyeong, residents on Vaengnyeong, Daecheong, Socheong and Udo were ordered to take cover.

North Korea said over the weekend that the planned exercises were designed to violate the armistice that ended the Korean War in 1953 and "ignite war at any cost."

At the United Nations, nearly eight hours of emergency Security Council talks on the standoff ended Sunday without a unified statement on the issue, Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told reporters.

"Within hours there may be a serious aggravation of tension -- a serious conflict, for that matter," he said.

North Korea blamed the United States for allegedly egging on the South Koreans.
North Korea "will force the U.S. to pay dearly for all the worst situations prevailing on the peninsula and its ensuing consequences," the spokesman said.

I guess with all the smack talk everyone can go back to sleep.

When is this next wave of training? tomorrow?

it would really suck to wake up and find out that SKO was nuked because of something as trivial as shooting bombs into water...

China needs to step in and bitch slap NKO already.
