That's pretty much the same thing that is happening to me this semester. It's a pretty easy class, COMS 363, Technical and Professional Communication. I've done well on all the individual assignments, would be comfortably sitting between an A-/A if it was up to them, but there's a term group assignment worth 50% on which we have done pretty poorly so far. We got an absolutely brutal TA who seems to punish us pretty hard for small errors.

Relying on a miracle to pull that grade up to an A- and then I've got a shot at the 3.93.

Other than Poli 399 (stats), COMS 363 is by far the worst/stupidest course ever and I also had the TA from hell. Man I hated that ####.

I hear you...

Man, I should post this in the WRGMG thread but without fail, I always had one TA a year that I despised because of their horrible inconsistencies in marking compared to other sections of the class. With my luck, I would get that jaded TA who didn't get in to med school, law school, PT school, etc. and would let their title of TA get to their head. Our tutorial section would have lower class averages then the other sections and this happened in one class a year for four years. Sometimes I just want to go back and give them a cheery fata you for making their course miserable.

If I was getting a 2.0 GPA I would go out back and cut my testicles off with a bread knife.

I guess being a student who is paying every cent of their education while working full time makes you appreciate what you are getting, instead of being ... you ... apparently.

I can't even imagine the level of slack and total disinterest a person must display to have a 2.0 average. Sounds like a person I would want working for me once they finished school. Or not.

No worries, im not a 2.0 student, i just cant stand some peoples mentalities that they must get a 4.0GPA like it has implications in the work force. Learning and being able to put forth that knowledge is important, but so are social skills and personality. Lots of times the people who gun for the 4.0GPA have 0 social skills and probably won't end up going far.

The old "the smart guys have no social skills" card. I see.

I guess watching TV/Movies/Anime/Porn, Playing Call of Duty on your xbox/PS3/PC, hanging out with your girlfriend/boyfriend/donkey are important things to do in order to develop these social skills which will be valuable in the workforce? Because I am willing to bet that those are the things that keep people from getting a good GPA more often than not.

I understand that to a point - sometimes those guys with the really high GPA's are super nerds and difficult to get along with in a social setting. In my case I have always been bored and disinterested in my classes. I'd skip classes, put forth little to no effort, and do the bare minimum to get by. It was nice, I got B's and had a lot of free time.

Getting B's, social skills, and 'personality' as you put it have always been things that have never been a challenge for me; I'm reasonably intelligent, very personable, and gregarious. What was challenging was finding something that I was interested enough in to put forth a somewhat serious effort and discover what I am capable of. Once I found that, the work wasn't difficult. I didn't stress about getting a 4.0; in fact I didn't think about it much, if at all, until last weekend when I realized it was in play. Even better, my social life didn't slip at all. If anything I was more social this semester than I ever have been.

I know a 4.0 means nothing once I'm out of school and looking for a job, but for me it wasn't about setting out to get that 4.0. It was more about finding something that I really enjoyed doing, challenging myself to do it well, and it just so happened these good grades are a fortunate byproduct of that.

This semester was a breeze. 2 of my 4 classes had no finals, and my Astronomy final is Saturday then Stats 2 on Monday.

Hopefully I should pull in two A's and a B and a C+.

Next semester is looking rather bad as I only have 3 (waitlisted for one, but it's not looking good).

If I do get my 4th I'll be 3 classes behind, and half to do an extra semester.

Hopefully you don't have to take an English class or else it may be another semester . Good luck with your tests!

Unlike a 2.0, I think a 3.4 is a GPA that you should be happy with.

I think my expectations are tempered by the fact that the kids often don't care if I have an exam the next day or not, and will wake up screaming randomly just to spite my grades!

back on topic:

2 registrar exams this semester, both at 8am next Monday and Tuesday. 8 am exams suck. Fighting rush hour traffic (because no way I am trusting transit for this) is not what I am looking forward to.

Of the four classes this semester, one had a final paper, one was a big group project, and the other two have finals.

Last Saturday I finished my econometrics. Hooray, no more statistics for this undergrad! This Saturday I have my Managerial Accounting final which will nevertheless be tough as there is a huge amount of material to sift through and remember.

Two more semesters to go and barring any issues, should be graduating with a BSC in Econ and a Business Minor. See you next semester, thread!

Yes, all those doctors, lawyers, Engineers and dentists sure aren't going far.

I've met some pretty strange ass doctors.

But clearly i meant in the business world, being an engineer and having no social skills can hurt you as working in an office is a social activity regardless of your job. It takes more than hard work sometimes to get ahead.

For example my cousin got his geology degree with decent marks, he almost dropped out his first year of University because he spent all his time partying and having fun etc. Now he makes north of 250K a year, has a huge house and lots of cars and has propelled his career through his social skills. He knows how to "work it".

I'm just saying that often times grades and hard work are only part of the equation.

Heh, at some establishments. My University offers an Economics BSC that is much heavier in math and statistics than your conventional BA.

The reason is that most post-graduate Economics courses are extremely heavy in math and statistics, as such a lot of students aren't going in with the skills needed in these upper level courses. My University offers the BSC as essentially a 'step up' over many other undergraduates in the sense that we're better prepared for an MA.

Six months? Damn that's nice!

I have an exam in an hour, then one on Monday night at 7PM-10PM.

Never had an exam so late. Until 10PM!

The lateness of some of these exams is brutal, but combine that with the early exam and it is insane.

A girl I know at work has one exam Monday until 10pm and the next is Tuesday at 8am
