I had actually left the game shortly before LK's release due to the idiot-factor. However, I was drawn back in by LK and switched servers ... it's remarkable what a change like that can do.

In my case, a lot of that has to do with the fact that the server I moved to (Silver Hand) is an RP server -- even though there's very little RP these days, the general attitude is a bit better than I've found in previous servers. There's generally a bit (okay, a lot) more acceptance of different ways of playing the game other than just the top-end PvP/PvE.

And at the top-end, the presence of Leftovers makes a huge impact as well. When you've got a community of thousands with the general attitude of "we'll all here to have fun" making up the majority of the server's raid groups, it makes a difference. There are still idiots (both in LO and on the server), but it's nothing like I'd experienced previously.

I wouldn't still be playing if I hadn't swapped servers and made all the friends I have. Even progression raiding has the feeling of hanging out with friends -- something that's pretty rare in my experience.

While I would love to do some raiding I didn't want to commit to the schedules, so I got left behind. And I did pug a few raids, but after a 6+ hour Naxx raid, I finally said screw that noise. So I have a Mage, Shammy and Hunter at 80 and a Warrior at 44; but I haven't played more than 3 hours in a week for months.

Wow, who has the endurance to do 6 hours of one raid? Brutal. After 3 hours I'm a zombie.

I've been playing for about 4 months. I have no idea what a raid, instance or PvP is. I'm having loads of fun just completing quests and exploring. I turn down duels.

I have a 41st Level Blood Elf Hunter, with a Dragon Hawk Pet. In my spare time, I enchant, make bandages, cook, fish and skin dead animals.

As long as you are having fun, that is all that matters.

And you haven't been in any dungeon instances? I always find those a lot of fun.

Yeah, don't be afraid to queue in the Dungeon Finder (hit "I" on your keyboard I believe) and get some experience running dungeons. As a hunter your job in these instances is just to do as much damage as possible, and don't pull the baddies come off the tank. The rewards for killing bosses are much better than any quest rewards, and you get plenty of experience running a dungeon.

If you select "random dungeon", you also get a bonus item as a reward.

The beauty of it is you can sit in the dungeon queue while doing quests. Get two birds stoned at once.

Heh. These are the new raids, the 'fast' ones. I played a long time before I quit (I started playing about 3 months after the game released originally) and some of the Molten Core runs I led ended up being around that time frame.

Heck, the very first time we beat Ragnaros, it was a Saturday "Front to Back" raid of Molten Core. The place was huge, there was tons of trash you couldn't skip, and there were a lot of bosses...so six hours later, we ended up dropping Rag for the first time.

Folks realized that is a bit crazy though (and Blizz did, too) so now we have places like ICC where, after you learn it, you can blow through it in a couple hours or so.

This is also why you have 'casual raiding' guilds. Those guilds that only raid 2-3 days a week for 2-4 hours. They can accomplish quite a bit, given the time to do so.

I tried a guild like that after my experience with a hardcore raiding guild (30-ish hours of raiding a week. You'd better not miss more than 2 raids a month, either...) and if you aren't in that mindset, you will burn out really fast. It's pretty crazy.

My guild raids 2-3 times a week for 3 hours a night max, though we haven't done a serious raid in a month (and I haven't been on regularly in 2). You don't need a big time investment anymore to see all the content (12/12 Icecrown 25, 8/12 Heroic 25), which is a big plus from the old days.

I'm on Stormscale but am tired of the server. Have played off and on since 2004 but most of my guild mates have quit and those that remain are like me and bored, and even with the expansion coming I don't think we are going to try to revive the guild.

I'd be willing to transfer to a new server to play with some CP folk. I won't do any hardcore raiding, and haven't since MC/BWL 40 in vanilla WoW and to a lesser extent Nax 25 in WotLK.

I'm an 80 warrior, alliance. I prefer to tank. I'll probably level up, and get the first purple set, but beyond that probably won't be too involved.

I broke down and re-subbed to join a buddy from class. I'm just putzing around on Elune/Horde as an Orc shammy, while I wait to roll a goblin rogue on Tuesday. All my old toons are on the Alliance side, but no way do I have the energy for that crap again.

The game is a lot more fun without all the stress and drama that comes along with the high-end raiding side of things.

Anyway, who knows how long I'll last this time. Maybe a week or two. I just always get this feeling that I could be doing something more worthwhile with my time... But December is typically a down-month for me, so tis this season I guess.

I was thinking about coming back for a month or so in Cata, too, just to see the new stuff. And then I realized I'd have to buy Cata, and a month's fee, and realized I could put the $80 or so to better use.

After all, I realized that over the years, I have spent just a bit over $1000 on WoW, between the subscription and the original/expansion costs.
