Do not start playing this if you have to work/study today. I haven't really gotten anything done all day.

And that review that mentioned the loading waits wasn't kidding - lots of wait times while flipping through menus and cars in the dealerships. But so far the game is fun, pretty much what I expected, the actual racing game play so far isn't really any better than the Prologue.

Did you do an install? Has that helped your load times?

I installed it when I got it, not sure what the load times are like without the install.

Gotta agree, the biggest annoyance is the loading times.....and not just for races, but going from various section to another one can be annoyingly long.

K. So I install the 8GB initially. I'm thinking during the install "yeah!!!.. never will i have to wait for a race to load now!"
When I go from the menu to submenu and back (anywhere in the game) I have to wait 4 minutes literally. I have never had to wait that long even on the first playstation for a game to load. wtf?
they call this polished. i call it garbage. Its ruined my experience of gt5, even though I know the actual gameplay is near flawless.
if i have 30min a day to play videogames... i'm not gonna pop in gt5 just so i can play a 1m.30s race and watch load screen for 17 minutes.
I've even had to restart the damn game because it was loading the start screen for so long i thought it froze... nope. I researched - its just the f'in loading the start menu. What were they doing for the past 6 years? getting high? f pd
f this. with my 30min a day I will play two games of nhl11.

Woah, gotta say, I've never gotten anything that long. Typically races tend to load in about 15-20 seconds for me. The longest I've had to wait was about a minute or so, but that wasn't even during a track load.

Wow, between the posts here and some of the reviews, this is sounding pretty 'meh'.
I told my friend GT5 would be 10x better than Forza 3, but I guess not, seems Forza 3 is better.
The only thing going for GT5 (in my opinion) is having the Top Gear test track.

That is a lot of assumptions you just made about a game I'm guessing you haven't played yet.

To be quite honest (now that I have cooled down a bit) - this game is great and definitely worth the $60. If not for the load time issues, non-existent damage, and pixelated shadows from cars - the game would be 10/10. The game play in one word is Intense. Every move you make has to be clutch or you're out type thing. I've never played any Forza's so I can't compare the two, but it's entirely possible F3 may end up being better.
Thank god we live in a time where this game can get patched and updated frequently because that would only make an awesome game closer to a 10/10 or perfect score PS3 game.
Also, I have some questions for the more experienced people here:
In real life, when I change gears I have to let go of the gas, push the clutch in, change gears, then let go clutch/push gas.
In this game (using a controller) is it better to let go of the gas button when you change gears - or does it even matter? Can I just hold the gas and change gears? Or can you in fact change gears in real life while holding the gas (I've never tried).
I've was tempted into getting the G27, but the Options don't show any presets for the G27 or G25? But it shows all the presets and pictures of the crappier wheels? Why? I would have thought they developed the game on the best available wheel configurations.
Using a wheel, If you can't stall and you can change gears with out letting the gas go then why is this thing even close to being a simulator? Whats the point of even using a clutch?
When I'm racing if I'm in 5th gear and I go all the way down to 2 nothing even happens. It just slows down gently.
I think since this game has been in development for so long - my expectations have skyrocketed. I think the marginal utility decreases for video game development as time goes on.
Go karting was fun.

Lol at all the people complaining about load times. So much pent up impatience from waiting 5 years for GT5. Hopefully they do patch the menus, online and load times though.

Yeah, wtf is that all about? Really ugly, I thought maybe it was my TV only being 720 or something. It was also really bad in the rain, every car was wrapped in pixelated mist.

You can't patch menus or load times. If they suck at launch, they'll suck forever.
It is a valid point though. This isn't just for GT5 but if a game has been in development for over 5 years and it isn't polished, that is pretty bad. I hate when games take forever to come out, get hyped so much that when the game finally comes out they can't live up to the hype.

In that same vein, I thought this visual guide to racing games was kind of a nice blast from the past:

I'm not sure there are any games out there that I played more than Indianapolis 500. One simple oval track, but I was obsessed with that game.

They were able to patch the load times of Mod Nation Racer. In that case I think they just adjusted what was pre-loaded and what was loaded during the game. Not sure if they can do that for GT5 but I'm sure there will be some improvements (not necessarily for the load times but for other issues).
For those that are having loading time issues disconnect your PS3 from your network or internet connection and see if that makes a difference.

And the Fanatec warehouse monkeys emailed me yesterday saying that USPS lost my order and they will "probably ship something to me on Monday." Not sure why the hell it's "probably"...even my girlfriend questioned their wording. There are a few Canadians on GT Planet that are in the same boat as me (but their orders are for wheels which, thankfully, I got) so I don't know if the whole truck carrying our orders just disappeared or what. Canada Post still doesn't have a record of it and USPS still says "electronically received....November 17th". I doubt that something going air from USA to Canada takes eight days unless customs are being really anal.
