BSU, based solely on the eyeball test, looks to me to certainly be worthy of a NC invite. Again, solid on both sides of the ball....and a true heisman candidate running the ship on offense. They have speed at every position that matters, and two pretty good lines where everything starts from. They also play "tough", a pretty good recipe when its all added up. If this team was in a BCS conference, they would be plastered all over every sports page/site in the country I would think.
Auburn has issues on defense and i think that has become awfully apparent.....and the Newton thing has to be considered IMO. I agree he is innocent until proven guilty but its becoming apparent to me this isnt going to end well for himself or the Tigers.
Oregon though is a bit of a different story. They too are solid all over the place and that video game offense they run is quite impressive when its working. They too have speed everywhere...to burn and are as well a coached team as exists in the FBS. On top of that I think the Pac 10 has been amongst the best of the conferences in the entire country this season and they have steamrolled through all of them thus far sans Cal.
TCU just doesnt look all that great at times. Maybe Saturday was just an anomily, but SD St. was ripping them apart for a good chunk of that game. The TCU offense played lights out and they won by 5 points...at home. Of course one of their coaches had a heart attack during the 1st quarter and that may very well explain a lot of the players losing focus.
That being said, how could anyone see anything but good if these 4 teams played 2 semi-final games (should the season have ended Saturday as an example) and the winners square off in a true NC game? And yes, it really is that simple.
It's just friggen comical how anyone supporting Oregon can even muster an argument against BSU after having lost to them two years in a row. Give me a break.
Huh? That would make sense if it were the same two teams lining up, but it's not. I don't even like Oregon, not at all, but they are a vastly improved team compared to either of the last two years.

That would be great, and it's the plus one system that lots of people (myself included) have been advocating throughout this discussion over the last few years. It's very different than a full scale playoff though, and it seems that a lot of blowhards in the media are set on an all or nothing approach, which I guess garners more page views.
You're still living in a world of fantasy if you think it's simple though, it's not. No change will be simple, regardless of how many times you say it will be.

You can't make an argument against Boise's Sked and how weak it is thus they shouldn't get a shot when you're team is having a good year...you know oregon will never schedule BSU again after getting a home and away loss.
It's a friggen joke..."we're having a good year, so we're better than BSU, TCU...", such a load of garbage. Continue to schedule them and continue losing to them.

I guess we shouldn't even play the Iron Bowl then. Auburn's lost to Bama too years in a row so they should automatically loose again right?
Keep in mind the first time these teams played Oregon played with their 4th string QB most of the game (after a cheap shot knocked Masoli out 3 minutes in) Harper got them in a huge hole so they put in their 5th stringer Darron Thomas and almost made a comeback. Last year, Boise beat us fair and square but we look nothing like that anymore. We have a QB in Thomas who can actually see over his offensive line and complete passes downfield and a Heisman caliber running back along with one of the best returners in college football.

No kidding. Especially Oregon. They must have played the easiest out of conference schedule in the country. A win against Usc this year is nothing to brag about.
If not for their sanctions USC would be a top 20 ranked team, so yeah still a quality win.

Beating Stanford at home is really all they have to brag about. And Stanford has not really beat anyone interesting.
Yet their still ranked 6 in the country?

Not really fair to punish bsu too much for vt blowing the jmu game 5 days after a devastating loss to start the season.
Now the ducks have just squeaked by a team that got blown out by Nevada.
So it's not fair to punish a team that squeaked by a team that plays in the ACC (which is awful this year) and lost to a 5-5 div I-AA team but it's ok to punish the Ducks for squeaking by a team that was undefeated at home playing in the pac-10 (which IMO is the toughest conference this year)?

Well I can't really make out what you're trying to say, but it seems to be that Oregon should schedule BSU every year? Correct? Yeah that's a little tough to do considering they aren't in the same conference and even century old rivals don't play each other every year. It's how ollege football scheduling works. The contracts were entered into years ago, for all either party knew both teams could have been 1-11 last year. Once again, these contracts are entered into years ago. The results of the last two meetings have absolutely nothing to do with why they aren't palying this year.
It's so comical when people go on rants about things without even the slightest knowledge of the realities of the situation. Seriously, educate yourself on something before you decide to call it a joke. It would help you construct an actual legitimate argument.
I'll use Michigan State as an example of how scheduling works, and how much of an unknown it can be.
MSU signed deals with West Virginia and Alabama in the spring of 2009 to play a pair of home-and-homes in 2014-15 (WV) and 2016-17 (Bama). When these deals were signed neither party had any idea what the state of the other prgram would be when those games rolled around. Would MSU be facing a NC calibre Bama team, or would Saban pull a Saban and bolt for greener pastures leaving the program in flux? Would WV become an elite team again or would they slide to an also ran in a still bad Big East? Would MSU keep building under Dantonio or would they go back to being the same old Spartans and be a team that struggles to be bowl eligible?
Want an even more appropriate example? MSU and Boise State just signed a deal to open the 2012 season against each other, but with the amount of turnover BSU's roster will have in the next 2 years that could potentially be a mismatch for MSU. Or it could be a mismatch for BSU. Nobody knows. An even better example of how extened the scheduling is can be found in the same agreement as the two teams have agreed to a home-and-home in 2022 and 2023.
So yes, I'm sure when Oregon didn't have BSU on their schedule this year it was due to the results of the alst two seasons

I'll argue that Boise's Sched is weak no matter how my teams doing that year. Bottom line is it sucks, year in and year out. Sure they may have one or two good wins every season but part of what makes winning a NC so difficult is the grind of playing a tough conference schedule. It's easy to scheme for 2 teams a year then play pick-up football for the rest and doesn't prove anything. And go ahead knock Oregon's OCC schedule all you want this year, their pac-10 schedule more than makes up for it.
Boise even admitted that their schedule sucks by making the switch to the MWC (doesn't really help a ton with UTAH and BYU leaving and TCU rumoured to be trying to get out).
Why would Oregon ever schedule them again anyways? It's a win nothing game. You win = oh they aren't any good anyways. You lose = you lost to a WAC team. In addition Boise thinks it's a big boy and makes some of the most outrageous demands to play these OCC games.
Hopefully they drop one of those games and LSU rolls over Ole Miss and Arkansas jumping TCU in the process. That way if Oregon can win out and Auburn happens to drop a game we don't have to play a NC game that essentially become a no-win situation.
Yeah hopefully we get to watch LSU's hopelessly inept offense in the National Championship game - that'll be a treat for all of us.
I find it hilarious that Boise and TCU are somehow undeserving of the NC Game, but LSU is? The team that lost to Tennessee, but was given a 2nd crack because of the Vol's stupidity? The team that needed a fluke bounce on a poorly executed fake FG to beat Florida? The team that only put up 17 points on Auburn's porous D (and was outgained by 280 yards)?
Either way it's a non-issue, but there is a 0% chance that LSU makes it to the championship game because they are eliminated from winning the SEC. If there's a 1-loss team that deserves to jump the non-AQ schools, it's Stanford or Wisconsin anyways.
Just watching the Georgia-Auburn game, that was a tough physically nasty game. Auburn themselves were super dirty at the end of the game.
The SEC maybe down this year but going through that schedule and having players survive it without massive injuries is quite an achievement let alone running the table.
Stanford, Wisconsin and LSU all have good cases of jumping the non-AQ schools.

good ole Urban Meyer blamed the loss to USCe on "not enough energy".... How about being out coached? or Figurehead? Hmm...

I'd be happy to see LSU in the championship game.
They certainly wouldn't be the first team to get there without winning their conference. With that said, they don't deserve to be there this season.
I'd choose Wisconsin out of the 1 loss teams, myself. I'd take Boise or TCU over any current 1 loss team. A 1 loss Oregon or Auburn still gets in over anybody else, IMO.

They wouldn't be the first, but everything I've read tells me that the voters will make sure it never happens again after Nebraska got pounded by Miami in 2001.
"I know any time anybody goes down against Oregon, (Duck fans) always think that's the case, but it's not the case,'' Cal coach Jeff Tedford said when asked if the injuries were faked.
However, a source within the Bears football program confirmed to The Oregonian that this indeed was "a big part'' of the defensive game plan against Oregon, although not all Cal coaches were on board with this strategy.
I'm planning a road trip to Eugene for Nov 26 vs Arizona. I am stoked. By this time next year I want to have seen games in Knoxville(done), Eugene, Wisconsins Camp Randall and Penn State

So this whole NW/Illinois debacle at Wrigley has sure got me intrigued.
If anyone hasnt heard the two team are playing today at the famed ball park, and the configuration the Big 10 and both schools signed off on, ended up with the goalposts at one end IN THE STANDS. On top of that, the endzone was literally 1 foot from the wall at that same end.
So they decided to change it up, rightfully so, for the sake of players safety. Both teams will play in the same direction for the whole game. All kickoffs will go the same direction as well. The only time they will go the other way is in the case of a turnover/returned kick or punt...and should they score on said turnover, the extra point will then be kicked at the other end.
What a complete clusterpuck and totally farcical to the game. But it will generate a ton of $$$ and certainly has me wanting to watch an otherwise meaningless game (more or less).
