That clip they showed of all the left and right media hating on each other was incredibly powerful.

Back from the rally. So many people down there. Couldn't hear that well, so I'm watching my DVR of it. It was really nice to see so many people show up. Makes me feel a bit better about the country.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but did anyone see Nenshi being brought up on the Daily Show? Just had some random NY friend ask about the muslim mayor thing, and when I asked her where she heard it, she mentioned she heard Stewart talk about it.

Nice well balanced post, it appears your bias is showing.

You have idea what you are talking about. Stewart is mainstream now you do know he has hosted the Oscars just like little guys like Letterman.
A week before the election everything is politics. Or do you think the timing of this rally was random? Where do you think Stewarts political loyalties lie? Obama with Stewart is like having Bush on with O'Rielly. There is an inherent bias in all of this. The GOP owns talk Radio and the Dems own Hollywood. If you think this was just for entertainment you are either biased toward the dems or just plain naive. Each side it trying to mobilize their base and using the weapons they have at their disposal. You can call it non political all you want but I guarantee there were DNC reps waiting at the exits to recruit. Like shooting fish in a barrell.

If you think that middle class voters will not vote for somebody because they were on the Daily Show you are the one who is being naive. That was my point and my only comment.

I never said the rally was not political either. You are arguing points I never said. Of course it is political. I completly agree with you.

I guess what I am saying is these are rough times. This close to the election people are expecting the President to go on a serious news show and tell them what he is doing to solve their problems and why they should stay the course. He will face serious questions from serious journalists about his record and the viability of his plans but that is why those shows exist. Going on a satirical comedy show where the line between what is comedy and what is reality is blurred is not going to fill the bill for the majority of those looking for leadership and answers. If this is the best he can do in the face of potentially the biggest landslide of opposition in history, he deserves what he gets.

have you seen the farce that is CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News lately? The Daily Show IS the most serious of the bunch

Default For a certain Demographic sure

Despite its popularity it is not universal and clearly not a news show. You go ask typical mr and mrs middle America they will not acknowledge it. The really odd thing about this is that Obama owns the typical Daily show crowd. He was not going to gain any votes by doing that. The only reason I can see it to mobilize the base. Get the people that back him out to vote. It is effective with the younger group but I don't see the baby boomers that grew up with Cronkite and Rather buying into it.

This is the basis of my branding comment. Serious times call for serious measures, much of the older and non hip younger crowds will see his going on a comedy show and not the news outlets as not taking this seriously and "damaging his brand". He is the president of the US and supposedly leader of the free world, and his chosen venue to elevate his cause to the people just prior to a potentially game changing election is to go on a cable comedy show? Hardly the preferred outlet for such a lofty position.

For the record... I dont watch any news show. I usually go online and read CNN, MSNBC, BBC and Drudge. Figure you average all of them out and you get a reasonable amount of facts included with the bias then make your own decisions.

Stewart got the most out of Obama, it was a great interview. And yes, it was to stimulate the base for the midterm election. And all the liberal baby boomers I know love the Daily Show. It is the height of mainstream liberal media. Do you mean Mr and Mrs uninformed Middle America, Mr and Mrs conservative Middle America? I think you have a biased view of what's considered Middle America.

Why do you insist on some outdated notion where there's a serious new shows for Obama to go on like in the past? He already went on the View, which, I'm afraid, is the closest thing the Mainstream Media has to Morrows and Cronkites of the past.

how about "meet the press", "face the nation", "washington week" any of the above. There are plenty of middle of the road political news shows. If he wanted a safe audience he could do the MSNBC news at least there he would be taken seriously.

So being as all the liberal baby boomers you know are into it, I take it Idaho will be electing all Dems this election to carry on his work? If you are from Idaho you know exactly the people I am talking about. Elections are won by both getting your people out to vote and to get the independents. The Daily show gig will likely get his people but do you think the independents watch it or the regular news outlets?
