The Daily Show/Colbert Report
so after years of waiting, both The Daily show and Colbert Report finally start broadcasting in HD, but what does CTV do? screw us over by still broadcasting the SD version on the CTVHD channel. what's up with that? are there different licenses or costs associated with them broadcasting it in HD?
and that's not the only area where Canadians get screwed over. we have a dedicated Discovery HD channel, yet the best Discovery Channel shows aren't on there. Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch, you're forced to watch the SD channel to catch any of them. instead we get the same few shows rerun over and over again on the HD channel
why do Canadians get the short end of the stick when it comes to HD?

only reruns, they never show new episodes the day they premier like the SD channel does

Fixed. Personally I'm happy with the HD offerings. Not anywhere near what it could be, but more and more all the time.

I was wondering about this too.
Also, I would love for this to become the "ongoing Daily Show / Colbert Report" thread.

that would be nice. i went back to them as my only late night fix after losing interest in Conan. Stewart and Colbert are funnier, edgier, and they have real people as guests and not just the same empty celebrities. whenever i hear that Neil deGrasse Tyson is a guest on one of the shows i have a nerdgasm, those interviews never fail to be interesting

Neil deGrasse Tyson is the funniest science-geek ever.
I dunno.... of all the things on TV that I'd like to see in HD, the Daily Show is not one of them. I have two PVRs - an HD one downstairs and an SD one upstairs. Even if DS was available in HD, I'd still record it upstairs where I can have it playing in the background while paying the bills.

I felt so sorry for Glenn Beck after watching him cry over the coke ad. He lost his America. :'(

I freaking love deGrasse Tyson, he and I have been shooting the odd email back and forth over the last couple years. That guy rules.

I feel your pain. As soon as I heard they went HD, I went to tune in to my dissapointment. And the Discovery thing is anoying too. I tend to miss some of those shows as they are way down on the guide in SD.

That was an awesome bit, the 1940's
John Oliver - So what was the 40's like
African American Guy - There were lynchings
John Oliver - So America was more active then
hahaha, the America that Beck and Hannity lost...

The Colbert Report can't really be used as an example of Canadians getting screwed.
Colbert on his show last night stated that many cable companys (assumed to be American) are not showing him in HD (when he then gave the figure to them in the "extended HD" part of the shot).
If this is true, I would assume it may carry for other shows as well.
Edit... I guess this might not be the same argument, as the cable companies in the states refer to a company lik Shaw here, and were actually talking about a station with CTV, which is Colberts comedy central equivilent.

ya the issue in the states is some companies don't carry Comedy Central HD. that's not an issue for us since we have CTVHD, but for some reason they're still only carrying the SD signal
and it makes even less sense for Discovery HD, because it's the same friggen network. why do Americans get to watch Mythbusters in HD, but we can't?

HD! CTV was only behind the ball a couple of weeks it turns out and now i don't have to hear Colbert making fun of me for only being able to watch it in SD. somehow i didn't realize it at first though, i was halway through The Daily Show when i thought "something looks different..." and then i finally clued in that it was using my entire TV and everything was so brighter and crisper

More important than that is how funny the Colbert Report was last night. The whole speedskating thing had me in tears.

so Stephen Colbert gets to be part of NBC's Olympic team, this should be highly entertaining. loved how he requested the title of "Host of the Tonight Show" from the NBC executive too

HD can't save the Daily show. I have about 50 episodes on my pvr and i'm just going to delete them all. His correspondents for the past 2-3 years are all terrible!
Colbert is still awesome though.

Oh how I wish I could un-thank thee Bertuzzied. Soooo bad.
Stewart consistantly knocks it out of the park on a nightly basis. His interview with Bush era, torture-memo lawyer John Yoo last week (while infuriatingly unfulfilling) was fascinating.

You could thank Bertuzzied and then quickly take it away to give them a taste of what it was like to be thanked by you, and then the followed by the sharp disappointment of having it taken away, knowing they will never see it again.
