I usually wear jeans when I go out in Kensington. Probably can't do that at Osteria, but that place is too full of itself anyway.

Restaurants in Kensington:

Chef's Table might be a hidden gem (probably not ok with jeans):

http://www.kensingtonriversideinn.co...efs-table.html

Chef’s Table at Kensington Riverside Inn is a gem on Calgary’s thriving dining scene. This intimate 40-seat restaurant, located in Calgary’s premier luxury inn, is quickly garnering a loyal following as well as some fantastic reviews. It was recently voted Best Hotel Dining for 2009 (Where Magazine, Jan.2010), as well as having been voted one of Canada's best new restaurants for 2008 (enRoute Magazine, Nov. 2008) and Calgary’s Best New Restaurant in 2008 (John Gilchrist Year-End Review, Calgary Herald, Dec. 28, 2008).

Have you tried Tazza's in Bridgeland? They're the bomb.

I used to love Charles Smart's donair in the Chuck.

Thats right, nowhere.
Little Chef in Strathcona.

Also, a new "family" restaurant has just opened on 14th St NW, a few blocks north of 5th ave (used to be an Italian restaurant).

My boys love Red Lobster, because they get to hold the lobsters (before they are thrown live into a boiling pot of water).

Tazza in Bridgeland is the best Shawarma place that I've tried. They don't have actual donair meat but do have quite good chicken shishtaouk (sp?) and beef shawarma. Give er a try. Waaaay better than A&A.

Other places I like:
Shikiji (Sushi and noodle house, Centre and 16th)
Baba Ka Dhaba - try the whole chicken from the tandoor, probably the best chicken I've had in Calgary
Used to be a cheap Vegetarian Indian restaurant around Memorial and 68th east, don't know if its still good.

I work at Velvet restaurant and the food there is quite good, I recommend the Beer Braised Short Rib, Seared Scallops on Wild Mushroom Risotto, there's a good Elk and Bison burger served medium rare/medium and some other solid stuff.

Osteria de Medici is very nice, but you should know, they expect you to pay the bill in full

As someone whose grandparents eat there on a regular basis; its alright. Its your regular restaurant fair (meat pies, sandwhiches, burgers etc), and is reliable, which is why old people love going there.

Its not amazing food, but its predictably "ok".

Really good food.
Yes, this is fantastic - have some Tusker with the suicide ribs. I have eaten there a half-dozen times. It's an Ismaili hangout.

The absolute worst is having friends who like bad restaurants.

Last week I met up with some friends before catching a movie, decided to get something to eat first. I let them choose and they came up with Applebee's.
