So Nenshi sentenced someone to death in a field military court Marshall.
Ok, now I'm sure we got the best mayor possible.

He simply wanted to know why the level of service (officers, etc.) was not consistent with the level of funding. I'd rather have someone actually ask the question than to blindly pre-approve the police budget without looking at it.

I'm really dissapointed that Farrell gets back in. I might have misread things though and saw that Fox-Mellaby was trounced which would make me happy.

Finally Linda is gone, we lived in her ward for years and never figured out why people voted for her. The Farrell win last night was toughest to understand.

I really wish more of the incumbent alderman got kicked off council. Hopefully Nenshi is better at building consensus than Bronco. Though I wonder how many of those alderman will be cooperative. Pincott and Farrell really needed to go.

Chances are, we'll all end up hating the guy in three years. He'll have some challenges and the council will make some mistakes over their term.
But let's give Nenshi and the new council the benefit of the doubt today, congratulate him, and wish for the best for this fantastic city.

I think Nenshi is one guy who's got enough charisma and speaking skills to galvanize council around key issues.

Sheeesh, Barb's whining of Nenshi's allegedly "negative campaign" just further reveals how unsuitable she is for public office. This is the nature of politics... all candidates point out why they are better than others and end up putting down opposing candidates whether intentionally or inadvertently. The way Nenshi did so, however, was in my opinion appropriate and tasteful for he didn't fabricate anything. He merely stressed points that were true such as her lack of background and experience.

While 60% of this city may not have voted for Nenshi, 68% did not vote for McIver, 74% did not vote for Higgins, and 99% did not vote for anyone else.
Don't like it? Move to a country where tyranny rules.

Thats the major downfall when people have high expectations without thinking rationally about when can be reasonably achieved. I truly believe that Nenshi will accomplish far more than McIver and Higgins would have and surpass Bronco. However, regardless of what he does... it won't be compared with the accomplishments of his predecessors but to the hefty expectations inspired by his platform. To that end, he is easily vulnerable to projecting a failed tenure regardless if he actually makes the most positive advancements that this city has seen in years.

That rarely works. If ever.
Clubs and carrots. Thats what works. Everywhere.

He'll be the greatest mayor in the history of the city but judged a failure in the end because he was expected to be so much more?
That's one crazy sounding paragraph.

That's why I put specific words such as "believe" and "if" (big ifs I might add). By no means am I implying that he is a shoe-in for being the greatest mayor. I'm simply just arguing that if he manages to accomplish a lot compared to his predecessors he will - more than likely - be judged on the initial platform that he ran on initially anyways. Its all perception... and people will always remember the high expectations that have been set and compare whatever he does to that.

- The planning study for the alternative alignment is still being done by Alberta Transportation.
- No further plans can be made until after the planning study is finished, so there's nothing the City can do right now.
- You'll soon find that the City is only a partner in the SWRR and the Provincial Government will do much of the leg work...you know, since they're paying for it.

Its going to be another 5 years or so before they ever break ground. He wants to renegotiate with the band, thats only taken 30ish years so far.

I hope the first thing he does is stop and reverse construction of the West LRT construction screwing Bronco and all the land he bought around it.
