Why all the hate for Mcivor? I liked his policies, plus he brought back Race City...good in my books.
I would have voted for Nenshi if i lived in Cow town.

So let's say Higgins gets 80000 votes.. It would have had to be 50000 for McIver and 30000 for Nenshi at least! That's alot.
|
I see your point

WOOOO!!!! I'm so happy that Nenshi won and by a fair margin! He was the best candidate by a mile and for someone who never gets excited about politics this has made me a believer in the system!! Even though I'm leaving for Paris in 5 weeks I'm excited to see where he leads us by the time I return (1-1.5 yrs)!!
Congrats to all the guys/gals who were the front line soldiers and for engaging the citizens of Calgary in to choosing for a BETTER CALGARY!!

I think the anti-McIvor sentiment (on CP) came from a general dissatisfaction with the existing council. I think he lost the campaign because he had a pretty much insurmountable lead and sat on it. This would have worked in almost every other election in recent memory but Nenshi's campaign was like a freight train that picked up just enough speed at just the right time.

congrats to Naheed!
I think that unlike the other candidates, he actually had a vision for moving the City forward...Glad to see Calgary look beyond the superficial aspects and actually look at his thinking and his philosophy.

I am not arguing over whether peace bridge was a good idea or not.
But if you look at the numbers it is pretty clear that either the disfuctional alderman voted for the bridge or the bridge became an issue that galvanized the electorate.
If you look at the handouts that candidates were handing out many of them mentione "the peace bridge is a symbol of what is wrong" with the city council.
I believe that voting in general has reflected this sentiment.
