I've actually done a 180 on this. I can see why some people would want Higgins. She's an urbanite and is very pro arts and culture. Whereas Ric says one thing and does another frequently. Also with most of the incumbents looking like they're coming back, building consensus will be very hard with him at the helm.
We definitely need someone else steering the ship, rather than the divisive politics that have plagued this council in the last 3 years.

I can confirm it is Nenshi. Can't say my source.

Yah, Rick definitely is a guy who's full of empty promises. Us Chinese people have a saying: never trust someone who blinks so much. It's a sign of dishonesty.

And Stewart said last night at the East Calgary forum that he would lock himself in a room with "experts" Nenshi and Hawkesworth on a particular issue that escapes me right now...
I would love to see Stewart come Nenshi's way. Fingers crossed!

I haven't seen any of the other McCourt interviews, but I would have to say Higgins had the right to defend herself there. I don't think that was very professional of him, Higgins handled it pretty decent except for the end with slamming the paper down on the table.

Mike McCourt is a tough questioner that does come on strong, but this shouldn't come as a surprise to any candidate. Just compare his questions with Higgins to Nenshi - I don't think he's biased as Higgins' charges.
Compare and contrast - who handles these questions better?
Higgins:

Nenshi:

In other interviews with Burrows, McCourt calls the candidate a "loser"

McCourt was asking Joe Connelly some pretty tough questions as well, I assume this is what he does, and I like it. I have no need for fluff journalism, these people are running to become the mayor of Calgary and should be able and ready to anwser the tough questions. Just another in a long line of signs pointing to the fact that Barb has nowhere near the skill set needed to handle this job.

I'm pretty disappointed with Barb. At first, I took great offense to the way she got torn a new one for her "lack" of experience. I say that anyone can do a job like this, as long has they comprehend it. Ralph proved that. But it really has become apparent that she's in over her head. And with Nenshi in the mix as a legit alternative to McIver, all Barb has really done here is screw over McIver.
I kinda have the feeling that Nenshi is going to win, and I think it's great for Calgary for two reasons. First, I just don't agree with McIver's M.O. I think he'd be a very contrary and abrasive mayor. The kind who would pick fights with other level of government, rather than work with them. Bronco was sort of that way, but he really needed to be to catch up on a lot of infrastructure projects.
The second reason I think a Nenshi victory would be great for Calgary is that it would give voters a bit of a kick in the junk and alert the apathetic that the process can work. There is an overwhelming lack of faith in our political system at all levels, but something like this can help spark a movement back toward politicians really being in danger of losing their jobs when they don't do what they say they're going to do.

I would guess, when the vote happen's McIver is going to win. Higgins and Nenshi will fight it out for 2nd.

Thanks for posting the Higgins Interview. My thoughts....
I found it VERY interesting that Barb said that she was approached to be mayor, and that it was something she had never considered. In my books, this essentially eliminates her from contention. I want someone that is in office because they desperately want the job, not because they got their ego stroked.
McCourt is/was kind of a dick. That's his schtick, and he's equally dickish whenever he speaks.....people know what they're going to get. If they don't, it's their own fault for being unprepared.
I think that the marionette comparison is pretty reasonable. I'm too believe that someone that never wanted to be mayor, and hadn't even considered it until the ego stroking began and has zero political/management experience is suddenly qualified to take the job?
I would vote Barb for Alderman, but not Mayor.

It seems that Barb was really mislead by someone, after-all you shouldn't expect any tough questions on a segment called 'The Hot Seat.'
Compare Nenshi's performance with McCourt. Were the questions any easier?

Wasn't really impressed with either's, actually.
McCourt is a grade-A prick in real life. Only Maqbool came close to his level of jerkiness.

Questions were different Higgins to Nenshi. Nenshi was asked about actual campaign topics, Higgins was asked to validate herself for even being a candidate.
I'm not trying to defend Higgins, I don't want to see her as mayor, she could have handled the questions better, but I do think she got the short end of the stick there. McCourt seemed like he was definetly against Higgins. Didn't seem like that in the Nenshi interview.

I think asking why someone is running is a valid question... McIver has had the most questions about his reasons and supporters in this election race, and he didn't get upset about it.

I agree it is, however it seemed to me he was not just asking "why are you running" rather, he was almost telling her "you are not qualified to run"

Perhaps Nenshi was asked about actual campaign topics because he has constantly released policy since declaring, and Higgins has been let's just say a little quiet in that area?

I think when you have spent your a good portion of your career reading the news, asking what makes you qualified, why you are running, and if someone asked you to run because they can control you are valid questions. She answered that she was asked to run.
The X92.9 interview this morning asked the same thing. She answered that it was her choice.
The X92.9 interview was very good actually.
