You are right about different parts of the community, heck there is even a difference in gameplay between PS3 and XBOX. Top PS3 teams generally have better defensive play, while XBOX teams are more offensively-minded.
Our perception of CPU goalies are even different - I would say they are terrible. We average 5 goals for a game against CPU goalies. Cross crease is still there if you make the extra pass. Top 20 teams generally play with 5 or 6, so CPU players aren't an issue. If we match up against 2 or 3, we just back-out and keep searching. If I wanted to play against the CPU, I might as well play offline or versus.
However, I would have no problem making the CPU skaters 10 overall and stupidly ######ed. It would rid the world of 2-4 man teams forever.

yeah, the thing about the cpu goalies is you know what you are getting. they make the saves they are supposed to make. however, once you figure out which specific ways to score, they are super easy. EA has done a good job removing major glitch shots that work like 90% of the time, but good players still know how to score on shots that have an above average chance of going in. so for a lot of people the cpu is crappy. however, compared to most humans, they still are better. most human goalies let in tons of softies.

I think it depends on how much a person plays net. A human has the ability to learn how to prevent bad rebounds and soft goals from happening while a computer does not.

I have to say that human goalie over CPU goalie. A good team is going to take advantage of a lowly rated CPU goalie because they can be easy to score on and exploit. Keep in mind EA wants to encourage full 6 on 6 play, so there's a reason they want the CPU goalies to suck ass. A human goaltender that actually gets used to the controls and practices to improve their ability will have a noticeable advantage over a CPU goalie. As long as a team plays good enough defense and doesn't leave the goaltender high and dry, the human goaltender should be able to do fine.
For this playoff lineup, I think we'll keep to a 5 team lineup. We'll work on having a six man lineup for next month once we can get a player or two that can get enough repetitions in to be a consistent primary goaltender for our club. Obviously the best players will make the playoff team, so it gives us all a bit of competition among one another to fight for a spot. Whom ever is farily active, plays the best and has great chemistry with teammates over the month will get a spot.
The following lineup is what I've selected.
Joborule
StMerc
Diverce
CalgaryFlame
Diemenz
This group I feel plays together really well. I know Diemenz for sure can play defense during 5 man games, and Merc does play it once in a while as well, but I feel he would be better served on LW. Plus he's of small size and isn't the vicious little sledgehammer he was in the past. I'd like for the defense to be players that can knock others down if need be. The other two players in the lineup consist of offensive personal. Since CalgaryFlame has had defensive experience, and diverce does well on the RW, I will like Diverce up front and Mr. Flame back on D.
For an alternative player, I would like Dobbles for defense. Being a long time player whom has played with all the above players frequently, he should be a good fit on the back end.

Probably should have posted this earlier but Flame is going out of town tomorrow. And I don't have as much time to play in the evening now that I'm back to work...I'll try to be on though but you're gonna need some subs.

Actually, I'm leaving this Wednesday and will be gone for about a week. I doubt I'll get any gametime in tomorrow as I have some last minute things to take care of before I leave. But as far as tonight's games go, I'll definitely be there.
Playing D is fine by me. It totally evens out as I'm more of a stay at home dman while Diemenz likes jumping up into play. We've been a pretty good duo in the past.

This is insane, I'm there every night day in and day out 48/7 563 days a year working myself to the bone just to be passed up by these guys.

There are a lot of teams that recruit in the Online Team Play lobbies, you can always find a game in there as well. From the NHL 11 menu screen:
ONLINE -> COMMUNITY -> LOBBIES -> GAME MODES -> ONLINE TEAM PLAY 1

Anyone up for a scrimmage or two while the others try to dive deeper into the payoffs?
Also, just an idea that we alternate so that next month, others get to play in the playoffs.

I suppose I could do a scrimmage. It beats playing OTP with all the ###### kids out there who think they are a one man team.

Me neither. I would have liked the idea of splitting those that could play tonight into a semis and (potential) finals group. Alas, it's not to be, and I can live with it.

I just logged in to play a drop in game. The playoff menu is gone, and it says our team did not qualify for playoffs.
I checked recent games, nothing has been played since yesterday as far as i can tell. Something's wrong.

It does seem the playoffs menu is gone.
Odd as we are 2-0 when you look at the playoff results.
