Hesla does have a point though, the highly sought and large, racist, senior vote might not like a lot of 'foreign sounding' names on his donor list.

Geez this reminds me a lot of Jacque Parizeau's comments after losing the referendum in 1995, where he blamed the loss on money and the ethnic vote. He got skinned alive by critics, and anyone that uses that to justify election problems is basically accusing the electorate of racism, and that doesn't fly with me.

Unless he uses the money to run an anti-developer campaign. I'd love to see that happen.

Looks like McIver also released his list of campaign donors. Not many shockers on the list

The whole concept of appealing to young people being the key to winning is a joke. If your candidate is relying on the most apathetic segment of voters to win, you've already lost.

Writing him off for one campaign gaffe would be a little harsh. I've posted a lot of posts chiding him for it mostly because some of his biggest cheerleaders on here refuse to acknowledge it as a gaffe. For me every realistic candidate has done one thing or another to make me question them. Nenshi's still in my top 2 short list of candidates for mayor that I would vote for based on his policy ideas. This can become a non-issue for me should he disclose his donors shortly and said disclosure is completed in an extensive manor and does not contain any names or organizations that would cause me to question the authenticity of his platform.

This . . . if young people actually got out to vote instead of sucking up bong water and listening to your rock and or roll music then politicians would actually care about what you thought.
But since old people have tons of time on their hands, bad prostates and an un yeiding hatred of young people they get out to vote and thus they have the power.
Screw you young people.

At 33% turnout or worse of the past few years, engaging even a few of the younger voters, which someone like Nenshi is working hard to do, could really make in impact. I look at it as they're being engaged to see how civic issues impact them, and then also spreading that to the adult folks they interact with. I've certainly been doing that, and so have many others I know.

It's a bit of a catch-22. There's no denying that younger people vote in proportionally lower numbers than older citizens, but why is that? Is it because young people are more interested in alcohol, drugs, rock music, video games, etc. than civic engagement? Or is it because most political candidates don't speak to issues important to their demographic because they're too busy trying to win support from the statistically-more-likely-to-vote older citizens?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find her that attractive. Any kind of 'video' that you suggested would have me ralphing in the loo pretty quick.

Personally I think it has less to do with issues and more to do with time. Older people (retirees) have more time to vote and do so. Young people are busier and don't end up making the time to actually go and vote. Its pretty easy to shrug it off as only one vote that wont make a difference. Rinse and repeat countless times.

Which to me is silly, voting takes less then an hour of your life, and its the one right that your guaranteed in this society, the right to select your government.
I've always said the same thing, if you can't make time to vote then shut the hell up about your taxes, or laws, or the way your city is designed, or your country is run. You gave up your right to complain when you couldn't be bothered to take place in the process.
