That is what I was thinking Saturday. So many blow-outs. Only one game I watched was competitive. A premiership, 1st, 2nd etc divisions?
Not sure how it would work - some schools are good at football, but not other sports.

People do care about college basketball in the regular season BTW, down here anyway.

Or are they there for the hallowed BIG CONFERENCES to toy around with?

Playoffs work in FCS but it's on a much smaller scale. Teams are regionalized until the semifinals IIRC and don't have to travel much.
But FBS is a different animal. You have travel and tv, cities hosting games on short notice. Unless you have 'home' playoff games in a proposed FBS playoff, teams (and fans) will be travelling everywhere!

NCAA basketball as a comparison for poor regular season schedules is not valid. In fact in no other sport do you get as many powerhouses scheduling each other.

Sigh... another full college season filled with non-stop chatter about Boise State. I was cheering for Virgina Tech just to quash that topic for a season (or at least replace Boise State with TCU or any other non-BCS school).
Go Oregon State!

While true the powerhouse game just doesn't matter. Does more big wins give a conference more at large bids? ACC for example gets 7 teams? My other guess would be the big games are for television and the big teams don't mind doing that cause they get the tv money and there's really no risk. Duke isn't going to miss the tournament by losing to Gonzaga in mid-December.
Would that happen in football? Can't see teams risk playing powerhouses back-to-back and not making a 16 team tournament.

How come nobody is talking about TCU. They looked far more impressive than Boise did.

Well I guess it depends on the season. Obviously the past few seasons I have been excited more about the football games because they have national title implications. However, during other years when Texas were national title contenders in basketball I've been more excited about those. I am not necessarily in favor of playoffs, but I think that the regular season games would be just as exciting if it's done right. OU - UT will always have interest, however what if Texas loses to Tech before that game. In the present situation they are completeley out of the Nat'l Championship picture and really the rest of the games are pretty meaningless.

Montana doesn't fit the bill in either of those categories and recruit a ton of local kids and are dominant.

Patently false.
Teams and fans travel everywhere in FCS. Don't see why the fans of the big schools wouldn't do the same.
Last Year for example:
(1) Montana (12-0) def. South Dakota State (8-4), 61-48
Stephen F. Austin (10-2) def. E. Washington (8-4), 44-33
Appalachian St. (10-2) def. South Carolina St. (10-2), 20-13
(4) Richmond (11-1) def. Elon (9-3), 16-13
(2) Villanova (11-1) def. Holy Cross (9-3), 38-28
New Hampshire (10-2) def. McNeese State (9-3), 49-13
William & Mary (10-2) def. Weber State (7-5), 38-0
(3) Southern Illinois (11-1) def. Eastern Illinois (8-4), 48-7

All games except the final are at a home field. There a huge difference between a home game and two teams traveling and filling up a neutral site stadium.
Let's say you put Boise State into a 16 team tournament, they play an eighth-final at Cowboys Stadium, a quarterfinal at Ford Field, a semifinal at the Superdome and the championship at the Rose Bowl. Are you as a Boise State student going to all these games? I doubt you can travel for 4 straight weeks in January.

Yeah that's kind of a half truth right there, and I'm an MSU grad so I spent a good deal of time in a place that's basketball crazy. People care about the regular season, but it's not until February that people really start paying attention to games that aren't rivalry based or the occasional non-conference showdown. Even then, most people don't pay attention to games not involving their team until tournament time.

MSU as in Mich State? Or Mississippi State?
College basketball sucks for that reason. Too many games and you can loose a lot and still make it into the dance. Hell you could loose every game besides conference tourny and make the big dance....

FCS playoffs aren't regionalized to minimize travel. That was my point.
Why do the games have to be at neutral sites?
I know the answer.

Understandable stance then. I love college basketball, certainly more than college football. I despise the NBA and love the NFL over everything. College basketball is the most pure spectator team sport in North America, IMHO.
