Comparing animal abuse to abortion is not really 'high level' stuff. That's your own inflated opinion of yourself talking again.

I don't really come here to be serious. I tried that before in religion threads and apparently, there are many childish people that I would prefer not to engage in conversation.

I don't really have a 'deal' with you except that instead of forming your own opinions on stuff you seem to regurgitate a lot of what other writers have said on the matter. I like to form my own opinions.

You don't form your own opinions easily. Someday you will realize that you too are merely unconsciously regurgitating something you have heard somewhere that confirms your own bias.

I reiterated my reasoning on the abortion issue above.

Also,

Do you really think that I am serious? I'm just poking fun at myself.

BAH, I apologize for derailing the thread.

Still doesn't explain why abortion was brought into this thread.

And that's a pretty internal way of look at things. And aren't you in a sharing mood? For the issue of animal rights I think we have alot to offer. Now maybe calling people a subspecies is outrageous but certainly we should be in a position to not only look at our own ugly realities but help other countries as well.

You clearly don't know me that well. Not to say my opinions do not match those of others sometimes because they most certainly do; however I revel in the challenge of coming up with new ideas and discussing to get my point across with those who are adequate opponents.

You guys, peter12 is a troll by his own admission and you're totally letting him rile you up lol.

As an aside, I enjoy your trolling, Peter, but I think you might be pushing the boundaries a little bit lately. Would hate to see you banned, so you may want to reign it in a bit or at least post more genuine stuff more often to balance out the trolling.

Not sure that I am totally a troll, I engage in some pretty serious and comprehensive discussions from time to time.

I saw nearly everyone out walking their pet dogs with 80% of them without leashes, I've been down all the "busiest streets" in the city and no where was there a "dog meat restaurant" on these "busiest streets". Without any reference to street names or even area of the city you can't even check the validity of this story. The only dog meat restaurant I knew was near where I lived and it was Korean. From what I saw everyone loved their pet dogs. Heck in Hong Kong some people opt to have pet dogs rather than kids.

When I was in Korea and walked through the markets it was well known that you could purchase dog meat. You never saw any of it though because as soon as they would see you coming they would cover it or put it out of sight.

I thought peter's point was rather straightforward.

*IF* you believe that abortion is the killing of a human being, then one need not look to the East to find a form of inhumane treatment to be outraged about. If we're to look down at people killing dogs, it's better that we don't have a practice in our own society that a large number consider to be the pinnacle of immoral behaviour.

That other countries also have abortion doesn't soften the moral blow. In fact, it's irrelevant.

Guangzhou province is the most notable for the worst atrocities against cats and dogs for consumption. Those responsible believe that the more adrenaline released by the animal, as a result of torture or lengthened slaughter methods, the better the meat will be.

My girlfriend is from Guangzhou, just got back from a visit there in July and says that the public consumption of dogs and cats is basically down to nothing.

Honestly, most of this is just speculation fueled by xenophobia.

That guy in Winnipeg was probably delicious then.

Too much?

That's not what he said at all he didn't state it nearly as elegantly as you just did.

So did Socrates. But he was also a troll (as per Plato). We've been through this before.

General comparisons between civilizations are mostly mind-numbingly dumb anyway. Does Morrisey want to talk about the West's human rights record? We butcher millions of our own citizens every year and barely bat an eyelash.

Well now actually what you said was that westerners are committing mass genocide on a daily basis and that (based on the article you posted,) those who do not consider a fetus to be an unborn child are somehow okaying human rights abuses and should be compared with those who slaughter animals.

So what brought you to give your moral opinions in a thread regarding issues in China?

Different country but awful close: About 3 years and 3 months ago I was in a town called Sapa in north Vietnam (I think it's like 20 km from China or maybe even less). I recall walking through the town and past the dog market.

Our tour guide marvelled at our reaction when she showed us a dog's head which, without getting into details, was mighty disgusting. I'd believe Pinner's story could have happened and I know they do indeed eat them.

This is correct. I'm from the area and the only place anybody knows of is in the small villages. In any town or city, it is nearly impossible to find it.
