I don't see a problem with discussing why BB is better or worse. A lot of informed people in this thread with different opinions. Keep the thread interesting.
Why did this turn into a justify your blackberry thread? I don't have one, but I also don't get why all the fan boys are in here belittling all of the BlackBerry devotees. We don't like it when rival teams' fans show up and start telling us why the Flames suck. So let's just keep this to a BlackBerry news thread not the let's bash the BlackBerry thread.
Last I looked, the latest Blackberry news is the encryption issue, underwhelming specs on their new phone and a Webkit browser. That's kinda what's being discussed.

I hear you about the device encryption but it's kinda like BB's are totally secure until you actually use it for anything, then it's like any other phone. What's the point of maintaing this massive infrastructure of servers?

I wasn't speaking for everyone. If browsing is your thing, then get something other than a BB. I stated as much above. I understand the browser is not great on the BB. Looks like the new OS6 one will be better, but if someone browses a lot, then iPhone or Android devices are what you want IMO.

Well, its secure enough to meet the needs of most businesses, unless your business is terror or narcotics, in which case governments have reason to look at your email.
But it all goes out the window once you send or receive an email from a Blackberry to someone outside your organization, since that travels good old unauthenticated SMTP. How I wish some major player in the industry would put their foot down and only support mutual TLS for common email carriage...then all email transmissions would be 1024 or 2048 bit encrypted (just like blackberry email, ironically).
That being said, my company is SAS70 and PCI certified, and I guess iPhone’s are sufficiently secure to meet those requirements, since they are allowing us to use them. ActiveSync is encrypted, and the phone’s contents are marginally encrypted.

I'd get more functionality out of an original iPhone than I would out of this Blackberry, even without 3G. It's that bad, based on that video. You can say iron out the bugs and what not, except the device has been released and is on sale working that poorly. Absolutely unacceptable.

A perfect example of how this (and most) thread is more about debating the pro's and con's of BB, and not just fanboys spouting off their crap....right?
What exactly is unacceptable? That a tooltip doesn't show up sometimes? That he made the twitter app "lock up" (even though he didn't have to pull the battery to get it back?). The unacceptable part of that demo was that the presenter didn't have a clue what he was doing.
What I saw was RIM making major improvements to their OS, but there are definitely some minor bugs that need patching. For all the buzz about the browser being junk, it sure seemed to be working well to me. Not as good as the iPhone by any means, but a massive leap for BB.
Fanboy? Feel free to change iPhone to ANY other smartphone on the market and the post still applies. If the comparison is to other Blackberries, then sure it's an improvement. I dunno about you, but if I was going out to buy a smartphone today, I'm not going to say, "Even though it's terrible, I'm buying this Blackberry because it's an improvement over past Blackberries." No... what normal people do is look at the phones available from all makers and choose the best one.
What's unacceptable is that RIM is a leading smartphone manufacturer but have just released a phone that is 2 years behind the curve.

I'm speaking for business users which is BBs strength, and as a business user, I would like them to improve their products because sometimes our field guy will need to access a webpage from their phone. (nevermind the constant battery pulls they have to do and no quickpull doesn't work on every OS/phone)

Please enlighten us with multitude of features the other smartphones have the the Torch doesn't. The truth is some phones are better at certain things, but if you go down the checklist, all of them get the job done.
Saying this phone is 2 years behind its competition is silly.
Nowhere did I say the phone lacks a multitude of features. It just doesn't perform well, and apparently cannot perform the features with which it is equipped. As per many reviews it performs on par with the iPhone 3G, released just over 2 years ago. Not really a silly statement at all.

watching the first minute of the video made me want to punch the guy in the face.
If I was getting a new Blackberry, I would get a Torch. I think a touch screen would be nice, but I use my phone as an emailing device so it needs to have a physical keyboard. Of course I wouldn't blindly just go out and buy it, I would compare it with the other options available at the time.
