AFAIC, if browsing is your thing, even the new Torch is not for you. If you like to browse the web a lot on your phone, then get something other than a BB.
I rarely browse. Not something I like to do on a phone....ANY phone.
That last linked review is proof that even the new webkit browser in OS6 is not as fast as other phones. So be it.
I just can't wait for the webkit Browser for my 9700. Anything would be an improvement...
BTW, my post about the sleeve for the Bold is officially wrong. On the new Crackberry Canada site you can older the leather sleeves for Bolds and Curves that does not have a belt clip just like the ones that used to come with them. (but nicer looking) I may have to upgrade my s*****y freebie one I got for one of these:
"If we had an iPhone 3G I bet the Torch would be on par." So... RIM's newest device barely matches the performance a phone released over 2 years ago. Ouch.

So you don’t find it concerning at all, that with all of OS6’s focus on social media, all of which lives on the web, that this performance might affect you in ways other than straight browsing?
So many things need to be rendered in that Webkit engine besides web pages - RSS feeds, HTML email, web-powered apps like Facebook, Flickr, etc.

No, because I don't browse the web on my phone. I use it maybe once a week for something small or even to follow a link to install a theme or something, that's it. I have a computer with a 21" wide screen for browsing the web. Why would I want to do it on my phone?
There is nothing that important that can't wait until I am in front of my computer. I just don't need a browser on my phone.

There have been times where I need to open something on a browser when I'm on the road and it won't load on my BB and I curse it.
I like my BB, but I wish the browser would work, and I think that's a valid complaint.
Not everybody is like you oilkiller, and can patiently wait to go home to check a link.
I've been a BB fan (owned BB shares, which was how bullish i was for them, back in 2006-07) for a long time until the past year and a bit where their progress has slowed down a lot compared to the competition.
I believe they need to improve their products quite significantly. I'm hoping that OS 6 fixes a lot of issues that our company has with BBs, and hopefully they have done so.

So what exactly do you do on your hyper magic phone? BBM, and e-mail?

The only thing BB's do well is secure mail. That's not to say they do mail well, because Android does it better, but mail and messaging on BB's is secure, hence their use in business. There is absolutely nothing that any BB does better than any Android phone as far as the user is concerned. By saying you don't browse on the phone, you are basically saying you are not a poweruser. That's fine, but BB is in trouble if they cannot create a decent device that appeals to powerusers.

Do you not browse the web because the browser isn't very good or because you don't need to browse?
I rarely browsed on my iPhone 2G because it was so slow. I just figured I didn't need to browse the internet on my phone. But now that I have the iPhone 4 I am finding I am browsing way more because it's way faster and therefore more usable.

It's secure as long as you don't do business in Saudi, UAE, India, Russia, Kuwait, China or any other country who will be demanding encryption keys in the next few weeks. It was rumoured that the US had them even before all these foreign countries started making waves.
Does BES support iMAP? Does the BIS always route all traffic through RIM servers, i.e gmail, twitter, facebook?
The new browser is a giant step forward though and by going with Webkit, they can leverage the open source community and Apple/Google to do all the heavy lifting.

There’s a bit more to BB encryption that just email flow - the device itself is strongly encrypted, a claim that Android and iP4 can’t make right now - the iPhone encryption is apparently trivially easy to crack.
BES ensures end-to-end encryption of data, whereas BIS does not.
Apparently, RIM will not disclose the private keys for individual devices, which means that even overseas in affected countries, your data on your handheld is secure (whether they’d torture you for it is another question I suppose), up until you send/receive data, probably, at which point the regional governments/law enforcement agencies will be able to snoop.
The reality of the situation is that if you needed absolutely secure communications between your office and your phone, you’re screwed. The other phones don’t offer the same level of on-board encrypted storage, and RIM can no longer guarantee end-to-end encryption in certain countries.
So RIM is, by default, the most secure today. As more and more governments demand access however, they will increasingly also be the emperor with no clothes.
Why did this turn into a justify your blackberry thread? I don't have one, but I also don't get why all the fan boys are in here belittling all of the BlackBerry devotees. We don't like it when rival teams' fans show up and start telling us why the Flames suck. So let's just keep this to a BlackBerry news thread not the let's bash the BlackBerry thread.

So people with Blackberries, or people who support Blackberries, can’t discuss Blackberries in the Blackberries thread, if it involves an open discussion about the issues with Blackberries?
The people justifying Blackberries ad nauseum are as bad as the iPhone users who claim the phone is perfect because they hold it correctly and it never drops calls for them
I don’t see anyone out and out saying BB sucks, or if its in this thread, its at a much, much lower ratio than the Macheads endure.
It just seems like we keep rehashing the same points over and over.
10 BlackBerry sucks
20 No it doesn't it does everything I need it to
30 Yeah well so does every other device
40 Nu-uh it does BBM
50 There's an app for that
60 GOTO 10

Edit: a more reasoned explanation is that for many users, the Blackberry is a device that needs a careful weighing of the pros and cons when considering it as a mobile device - there are substantial advantages, and increasingly, some real drawbacks in the face of the alternatives on the market.
