Denver has lost Dumervil, WR Kenny McKinley and S Josh Barrett for the season. The impact of the first loss is obvious to all, but McKinley is a nice player who had a chance to be in the top 5 WR's and would have been in the return game where he played pretty well last year. Barrett was the 5th safety but the Broncos depth will take a hit with his loss.
Dumervil's absence almost demands a scheme change. No joke.

After working out Chris Hawkins this morning the Ravens have added him to their roster to add depth at their CB position.

Same with Seattle. Give the division their in playing the Rams and the Warner-less Cardinals, and a powderpuff schedule otherwise.
I really can't see them being any worse then last year, and even then they were a couple late dumb losses from being right in the mix.
With Carroll they have a renewed energy and different attitude. With a legitimate backup now, Hasslebeck has no excuse, and won't be left in there anymore.
Be surprised if Seattle too doesn't get to 7-9 or better, in case SF's success last year was again helped by the poor division.

Yeah, I try to be pretty objective. When I think my team stinks, I'll say so. I think the Eagles are going to surprise some people this year. Kolb will have some growing pains, but I can't see a team with that many playmakers on offense not managing to get at least 7 wins. The big question mark is the secondary.

I doubt it. He's not really a pass rusher.

I don't think the Chiefs will be contenders, but I do think they will be improved from last season. The additions of Romeo Crennel and Charlie Wiess to the coaching staff certainly can't hurt. Pioli and Haley had a full off season to prepare for this years draft. So far at camp the media has been gushing over the Chiefs rookies, especially McCluster. The big question mark for this team is the front seven. Nothing has changed there. I'm thinking Pioli and company are hoping that the young talent on the defensive line will continue to improve.

Jarvis Moss out might be good news. He is Dumervil's back up and frankly he sucks. This might force the Broncos to be more aggressive in finding someone to play on the right side for this season.
Kuper has turned into a stud guard. Really hoping his injury is minor.
Len Dale White is fat.

On the plane to Canton for the Hall of Fame ceremony, Saints owner Tom Benson presented Rickey Jackson with his 1995 49ers Super Bowl ring.
Why did Rickey not have it, you ask? 10 years of dinner tabs came due to New Orleans restaurant owner Joe Impastato. Impastato owns two luxury boxes in the Superdome, and more season tickets that anyone else, so it was easy for Benson to get in contact with him.
Benson inscribed "Rickey Jackson #57 a Saints Super Bowl Champion, Mr. Benson"
Benson was persona non grata for some time in New Orleans, but he's turning his reputation around quite nicely.

New England claimed injured safety Josh Barrett (Broncos) on waivers today. Strange. That doesn't happen very often.
Anyone who thought that there would be a legitimate QB battle in Denver has been proven wrong very quickly. Kyle Orton has been oodles better than Quinn.

Ravens safeties have been looking good at camp there is no need to rush Ed Reed back. There problem still is the CB position as the receivers have been doing good at camp and they have been struggling. It appears the Ravens will have to make a trade to find a corner, preferably with a team in need of a linebacker, receiver, defensive lineman or tight end, areas where the Ravens have a surplus of talent.

Looks like the Packers have unearthed a gem that goes by the name of Sam Shields. He is opening everyones eyes in GB with his play both as a Db and a kick returner. Undrafted out of Miami he will go a long way to helping the woeful special teams the last few years as well as solidifying a weak spot on the team with aging Charles Woodson and injured Al Harris. Also Brandon Underwood has been great at this spot as well. This is a spot all Packer fans are holding their breath about but if they carry their play into real games...could be a very good year in Wisconsin.
Also Packer nation showed up 47,000+ strong for a scrimmage Friday night. Unreal.
EDIT: I was wondering how a guy with 4.2 speed went undrafted out of a big time college program. Found this article and it explains a lot but also allows reasoning on why he was overlooked and also why he shouldnt of been. This is only his second year as a CB. He was signed to a league minimum contract and a $7,500 signing bonus.

Remember the name Clay Harbour. He's a TE in Eagles camp that's been making a number of big plays.

Chiefs rookie Dexter McCluster is making life tough on the equipment people at camp because he keeps wrecking his shoes.
http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/story/?id=329768
"He's running out of his shoes," said veteran wide receiver Chris Chambers. "I'd never seen it. That's a new thing."
He's a small guy, and he doesn't have great speed in the 40. But his ability to change direction and his initial burst is something else. Even before the draft guys like Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan were saying you have to watch this guy in practice and the separation he can get in man coverage with the cuts he can make. They were saying that as a receiver out of the backfield was where he was going to make an impact in the NFL. Similar to Darren Sproles.
Will be interesting to see what the Chiefs do with him, he's not big so he may have a tough time taking the pounding that a NFL season can dole out. But a guy that size and that shifty, is a hard guy to square up and lay out too. Between him and Jamaal Charles the Chiefs should have a couple of fun guys to watch who will give defences a match up nightmare.

I'm loving all the hype the Cowboys are getting before the start of the season. The Dallas hype-machine is the biggest reason why I love watching them fail so much, and it will likely happen again this year. No doubt that Dallas has a very talented team, but that O-line has some question marks.
