The other thing I'm not too crazy about either, is their terminology around their 6GB offering. They're just calling it "bonus data" instead of an actual data plan. In other words, if you already have 1GB in your existing plan, then you get 5GB of bonus data. If you have 2GB, you get 4GB of bonus data. 3Gb gets you 3GB, etc etc.
Yes, you still end up with 6GB, but the term "bonus" implies that it can be taken away. Whereas, with Rogers and Bell, it's an actual data plan... meaning the only way you can ever lose it is if you tell them to take it off your account yourself. Even if your contract expires, it will still be there on a month to month basis. Bonus data (like minutes) does not work that way.
You could wake up 6 months from now with an email informing you that the bonus data will expire at the end of the month.

Yeah I decided it wasn't worth it. My 3GS is a bit slow but I'll live with it for about another year or so when the iPhone 5 comes out or whatever.

Can the Apple Store re-up contracts for Telus, Bell, Rogers, ect or do they just sell jailbroken units?

They sell unlocked units, in addition to performing hardware upgrades and new activations for each of the respective carriers.
As an example, I walked in yesterday and got my hardware upgrade for $159 which was just billed to my Rogers account. I had to wait in line for 90 minutes, but the actual transaction took only 10 minutes.

Edit: so I just got off the phone with customer relations and they said that since I am still within the first year of my contract I would have to pay an extra $200 data fee so they said I would have to wait 3 more months to be able to have any kind of leverage on them. damn.

Yeah, and then try to pay them back. The company they use to collect on an account is out of Mississauga. And it is full of the most inept and arrogant representatives I have ever had to deal with. One person called me 'ridiculous' for having waited so long to pay it back, then hung up on me when I asked for another rep. The second one got mad and said "Just say you won't pay this so we have you recorded for court", I told him I couldn't pay it but I wanted to. And he ended the convo for us. And I assure you, I am a very polite and respectful person on the phone...so this was even more shocking.
Long story a little less long, I've been trying to make the final payment for over a month...but the 'rep' they assigned me won't call me back. And all I ever get is voicemail.
I don't know why this is all necassary for $600.

For the record, Telus' ECF is capped at $400 (and has been for a while). Not $20 x "x number of months" as it once was.
Add $100 ecf if you cancel the data portion of a plan within the first year of signing a contract with data to get a handset subsidy.

There is a post in this thread that outlines the $$ savings on buying the phone outright vs. going on a contract. Could somebody help me out with that? Yes I've tried google.

There's only money savings if you plan on terminating your contract early. Depends on the carrier, what phone you're buying out right, and any subsequent contractual promotions you plan on signing; probably why it's not on Google.

Hmmm.....I'm working off the initial charge and it looks like this isn't going to last 24 hours.
Usage: 5 hrs 40 min
Standby 17 hours 35 min.
9 min call time
70mb of data.
Current charge 16%.
Wifi off, brightness @ 40% or less, BT off, 2 mail accounts pushed.
Is this normal? I'm hoping for better performance on subsequent charges. Coming from the BB world I'm used to 3-5 days between charges.

Completely different phones. You'll be charging your iPhone at night and draining it during the day. It's not that big of a deal, really. Just plug it in at night.

Yeah. You're not going to get 3-5 days out of any of the new powerhouse smartphones, iPhone, Galaxy S, Desire/Nexus One, etc. It's no fault of the iPhone.

Upgraded to iPhone 4 for $159 on Monday... Sold my white 16GB 3GS for $350 yesterday, four hours after the listing went live on Kijiji for $375.
Not bad, not bad. Didn't quite make the $200 I did last year when I sold my 3G for $400 (after upgrading for $199), but close enough.

The lineup at the Apple store in Market Mall was still quite long this morning. The poor Apple store employees are being overworked these days I think. The Genius I met with on Tuesday said that that was his 9th consecutive day working.

Yeah, the one I talked to said a lot of them are working overtime as well.
The trick is learn the pattern of the Apple guys who come around with the bin full of treats for the people in line. Then you just sneak into the back of the line for the free granola bars or chocolate bars!

Are you one of those people who would go to Krispy Kreme for the sample donut and leave?
