Still four bills to cancel. How did you make out with the free iPad sharing thing?

Rogers would ship the iPhone to you with an activated micro sim in the box. You could either keep your old one to use in other phones, or destroy it. Also, there's a link for changing from sim to micro sim in the Hardware section of your MyRogers online account. You just have to type in some info from both chips, and submit it.

And now for my jailbreaking tip of the day...
Download SpringFlash. It comes with Activator, which enables gestures on the phone. That's not the cool thing, though. The cool thing is that SpringFlash turns on the camera flash with a simple gesture. This thing is bright. Waaaayyyy brighter than the old white-screen flashlight apps.
I have mine setup so whenever I double tap on the statusbar at the top of the screen, my flash turns on. Double tap again, and it turns off. Finally, an actual flashlight phone!

Be careful with the cancellation fees, as most are on a per line basis, meaning data and voice each have their own separate fees.

Booya! We eventually agreed on an ipad sharing plan that I thought was on par with Bell, which was bare minimum what I wanted (bringing my total bill to $90 - $95). Eventually she said "you have 14% tax right?". When I explained I was in alberta, she said with tax it ends up being $84 ... so I gots myself some free iPad sharing! Bye bye unstable jailbroken iPhone!

Having iPad sharing really makes me wish I bought a 3G iPad instead of rushing to buy a WiFi iPad from the states.
Oh Well, I purchased MyWi 4.0 last night, it works great. Only will be using it for short periods of time so the battery drain isn`t a huge issue to me.
By the way, the battery on this phone is amazing.
2 Hour usage...still 87% battery LOL.

This reminds me ... the lady said they weren't able to give deals on iPads purchased in the USA. Looks like the data sharing is only available on Canadian purchased iPads. You can still purchase data for them obviously, you just can't hook it up to your cell data plan.

Out of curiosity, how do they determine? Serial #? I'd have to figure that can be loophole-d. AFAIK If you put a rogers microsim in an Ameripad you still have the self-serve rogers activation, so I don't see how that would be the limiting factor?
Never know with Rogers though. 5 Reps can give you 5 different answers sometimes!

Apparently it just won't work. The lady said she spent an hour trying to figure out why the system wasn't accepting the deal. They do take down your serial number (well, not your serial ... something different ... ICEI IEMI number?), so that might be it.

I imagine Apple supplies vendors with all the IEMI numbers for devices sold in their country. Whether or not it was Apple's idea or Rogers to block international IEMIs from qualifying for discounted plans... who knows.
My money is on Rogers, though. That kind of thinking has Canadian carrier written all over it.

I browsed through the last few pages of the thread quickly but couldn't find anything.
I'm with Bell and I upgraded to the iPhone 3GS in December 2009.
How much would it cost me to get the iPhone 4 if I wanted it today?

Just tell them you want the iPhone. Let them know that if they want you to buy it outright, it's cheaper for you to pay the $400 cancellation fee and then $159 to get one from Rogers or Bell (on a new activation) than it is to buy it from Telus for $659.
Then remind them that your $75/mo is actually worth $2025 to them over the next two years. Ask them if they really want to lose that money over something silly like an iPhone upgrade.
Again... if they say no, then they're not really a company worthy of your investment.
Edit: Just saw your edit... The service-at-your-house thing is a pain. Just don't tell them that. As for the phone number, you should be able to dial 611 from your cell for Customer Service.
|
So I was reading around the internet and apparently Telus is the only phone company that doesn't have a max for canceling your contract. WTF! Telus is without a doubt the hardest to deal with and greediest out of any of the phone companies in canada.
Edit: so I just got off the phone with customer relations and they said that since I am still within the first year of my contract I would have to pay an extra $200 data fee so they said I would have to wait 3 more months to be able to have any kind of leverage on them. damn.

My friend was trying to get out of her Pearl contract and $20/month for the 24 months she had remaining would mean a termination fee of $480, yet she said it would cost $400. I've heard several times that the maximum is $400.

$200? Rogers Data ECF is only $100. Man, Telus is just ridiculous.
The other thing I'm not too crazy about either, is their terminology around their 6GB offering. They're just calling it "bonus data" instead of an actual data plan. In other words, if you already have 1GB in your existing plan, then you get 5GB of bonus data. If you have 2GB, you get 4GB of bonus data. 3Gb gets you 3GB, etc etc.
Yes, you still end up with 6GB, but the term "bonus" implies that it can be taken away. Whereas, with Rogers and Bell, it's an actual data plan... meaning the only way you can ever lose it is if you tell them to take it off your account yourself. Even if your contract expires, it will still be there on a month to month basis. Bonus data (like minutes) does not work that way.
You could wake up 6 months from now with an email informing you that the bonus data will expire at the end of the month.
