Oh I agree the CBA is a mess...but I cant place all the blame on the owners when it comes to contracts in any way, shape or form.
Look at Bradford this year...he is guarenteed 50 million freaking dollars and has yet to play a single snap in the NFL. That is ludicrous. And i would say that fact as well as the 18 game season are the two main issues that this lockout may occur over.
And I agree that Revis is worth more than 7 million a year...but what has he made thus far in signing bonus and salary? That too has to be counted in. Im not even suggesting he shouldnt be asking for more, only that if he wants it he has to know he is walking away from 20 million in order to get it. That is his decision and not the teams.

The question is whether the owners are willing to make some concessions in the players favor in order to get those two things taken care of.

Not to mention he is being fined 16K a day for not showing up to camp, the longer it goes the uglier it gets. He is selfish and I was listening to ESPN this morning and it sounds like the announcers are on the same page as me, he has made 16Million so far and would have been gauranteed another 20 million.
Greed has taken over instead of winning in my opinion. The jets are overhyped this year but they are good and he is a key cog, sad that he's potentially willing to throw that away.
The announcers also mentioned that he is not in the same catagory as Asomugha yet. He has had one good year. Asomugha has played 8 years and has been consistanly good for a long time, he deserves the payout. This is the difference between the two.
If he thought he was so good when he came into the league why did he sign a 6 year deal, why not a 3 year deal? If he signed his 3 year deal he would be getting his wish now. However he signed the 6 year deal to maximize his money back then, now he's just being greedy.

I'm a Dolphins fan too, and I hate the Jets more than any team in sports (well, tied with the Canucks), but you're letting your homerism show on this one. Revis is clearly the second best CB in the league right now, and he's getting paid as if he's not even a starter on his own team. If I'm in his shoes there's not a chance in hell I'd report to camp. It's not about greed, it's about earning your maximum possible salary in a profession where careers are incredibly short and one that will also likely cut short your life.

He was all pro his second season too. All these people who say he has had one good year obviously only think that because he was hyped for the first time last year. Hell in his rookie year as a 16 game starter he only gave up 2 TDs against TO and Braylon Edwards. Aso has done it for longer I will give him that, but I don't see any reason to think Revis won't. He is not the one year wonder you are painting him to be.

I don't blame him for holding out. I think that it's ridiculous that people expect the players to honor contracts, but the team doesn't have to. What if Revis takes a head on collision this year and is paralyzed? Do you think the Jets will pick up that option out of the kindness of their hearts?

This is a very valid point, but realistically that's not going to happen in camp. Come to camp, participate and if the team doesn't come to the table sit out the regular season. It's a tough position to be in for sure.

Knowshon Moreno's hamstring is not torn. Out 3 weeks. Thankfully. I didn't want to see a jumps start of a repeat of 2008

Realistically, career threatening injuries happen all the time in camp and pre-season games. Participating in camp while in this contract battle would be a major risk, and it also takes away a lot of the leverage Revis has.

The Ravens have traded for a CB. Doug Dutch is headed to Baltimore while John Beck is headed to Washington.

Yeah its a tough situation...as i can empathize with both sides.
teams say "you have a contract and we expect you to honor it"
Player says "the average NFL career is 3.4 years so I am going to make what i can while i can".
Both are valid positions.

Colts sign first round pick Jerry Hughes

All of Indy's picks have been signed.
Freeney, Mathis, Hughes. I love that trio of DE's!

Yeah he is a good player but he will be behind those 3. If Mathis or Freeney get injured, Hughes will step into the starting role.

I am on the players side on this one, because I don't see how the teams can expect players to honor contracts when they don't have to.

Soon to be released DE Aaron Schobel seems interested in coming home to Texas.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/7135755.html
10 sacks last year and reunited with former coach Bill Kollar? Sounds like a great guy to add to the d-line rotation for Houston. Sign me up.

Trojan 97, are you the diehard Texans fan? I can't remember if it is you or not.
Anyways if you are, what are your expectations for this season? Every year it seems people think Houston will take that next step but they haven't yet.

So any camp updates from anyone so far? Biggest surprises, biggest disappointments, sleepers, etc?
So far Kevin Kolb is getting mixed reviews at Eagles camp. He's had some nice plays but is dealing with some consistency issues. Mike Vick, on the other hand, has supposedly been very sharp. According to a lot of things I've read, Riley Cooper has been the star of camp thus far.
And for the CFL fans, Martel Mallett has been garbage for the most part. I'd be shocked if he's still on the team after the first preseason game.

According to this site, Mallett was waived on July 31st:
