Yeah, I think that feeling is very much a perception issue/in one's mind. It's like travelling to a different country/part of town and being colored (? I can't think of the proper wording for the idea I have my head) by comments from friends and such beforehand perhaps.

And to be fair, only time I've been to Saskatoon was for an engineering thingy - I was a little/ lot drunk for a little/lot of the time.

I'll be completely honest, I do not feel safe when on the north side of P.A. by the Walmart. I look around like I'm about to be jumped constantly, because I've had friends get assaulted while in that area of town.

I understand why the majority of young people try to get out of that town and move to 'toon or elsewhere asap.

I can see why people hate Rider fans but it doesn't bother me because as a Rider fan I too get sick of some of the stupid Rider fans as well.

I'm not going to argue whether or not that Rider fans are the worst fans, so don't bother bringing it up. Although, it is fair enough for us decent Rider fans to point out that there are bad fans in each fanbase. Don't see why it's such a bad thing to point that out.

For example, a co-worker of mine travelled to Calgary for the game. She was getting beaked by a drunk Stamps fan about the Riders, which was fine. If you can't take trash talk about your team then you're not much of a fan, in my opinion. But then this drunk girl starts personally insulting my coworker (lookit that dumb slut!, etc.) So, to say that Rider fans always cause the trouble as the visitors... well, it's just simply not true.

But my real reason for posting is this:

All of these stupid jokes about being from Saskatchewan in general. Yes, the OP took a jab at the Stamps; to say that Saskatchewan is full of inbreds, the list of stupid jokes goes on, are insulting, inaccurate, and irrelevant in terms of trash talking the Riders. As someone who was born and been raised in Saskatchewan, and loves my home dearly... I am disgusted with Stamps/CFL fans who think it's funny and relevant to trash talk the Riders in this way.

Right now, Saskatchewan is home to 5 of the top 10 business-friendly cities in Canada. Whose economy in Canada stayed the strongest through the recession? Saskatchewan's. The view that many Calgarians/Albertans have of Saskatchewan is out-dated. The ignorance and arrogance of Albertans toward their Eastern neighbour is shocking and disappointing.

As I said above, the point of this post isn't to convince you that Rider fans are good or bad. A lot of the hate for the team's fans is warranted. But just thought I'd throw in my two cents over the insulting and irrelevant jokes about Saskatchewan people that seem to be acceptable responses to Rider fans' actions. They aren't, and could just as likely be a part of the increasing problem between Rider and Stamps fans.
Good post. I think we can all take some good natured ribbing however most of it is pretty weak and very un-original. My personal favorite is the "Where did you park your combine?" comment. I've never really understood where the funny part is. Did you just burn me by saying I can afford a $250,000 machine? Good call.

Yeah, I can see that. Fair enough, since you've actually been there and haven't just created your opinion based on gossip. But I'll also say that P.A. and its problems get largely exaggerated (spent a fair amount of time there). Why do I say that? Because people get assaulted/crimes happen in all cities.

I honestly don't understand why people are so quick to jump on P.A. when it's unfortunately not uncommon to come across sketchy parts of town in any city. For example, my ex-boyfriend and I came across a place I didn't feel safe in downtown Calgary. It happens everywhere.

I've got a couple of different theories that together I think can explain it.

1. Some people tend to think that their hometown is the safest. So when a crime happens in a different city (say an assault in P.A.), we immediately jump all over it, ignoring the fact that you could just as easily be assaulted in your own hometown whether it be Saskatoon, Calgary, Vancouver, wherever.

2. P.A. is a much smaller city than Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, pretty much everywhere (around 35,000 people). So word gets spread around a lot quicker; I'm willing to bet there's a lot that goes on in the bigger cities that nobody ever hears about simply because of the larger size.

I need to stop derailing the thread. Go Riders! Err...Stamps? Nope sorry can't do it.

Agreed. I mean, beak my team all you want; it's part of being a sports fan. Beak my home province and call me inbred because of some idiots from Sask? That has nothing to do with football and thus has no place in "trash talk". Same with the combine comment. Keep it to the teams or the game and I'm all for it!

I understand where you are coming from with P.A., but I can tell you from extensive personal experience that it has some real issues for a city of it's size.

The RCMP presence on the north side of town is much higher per capita than any area I have come across in Western Canada.

Granted crime happens in any city, and serious crimes can occur anywhere you go. That doesn't mean that P.A. does not have serious issues. We could debate about crime in Canada, and how it happens everywhere, that is a fair point. Where I am coming from is personal experience growing up in the area during the summers and feeling very wary of the surroundings.

Driving through P.A. on the way to the cabin reminds me of driving through Edmonton in the middle of November when there is no snow on the ground: it's dirty, it feels run down, and you can't wait to get the hell out of town.

Saskatchewan is a great province, and has a lot of great places to visit and explore (I really enjoy Waskesiu and the surrounding area). However if you want to circle a place on your map not to live, P.A. would be up there on my list, right next to Kindersley and Edmonton.

Are you serious? It's a rivalry, grow a pair. Edmonton has their mullets, Saskatchewan has their inbreds.

What's the story behind calling Saskies in-breds? Is it because of the small population over there? Seriously, I dont know where or why this sentiment started?

Yes. The mostly rural province is known as a backwater. Backwaters tend to be associated with the movie Deliverance. Deliverance had some inbreeding in it.

Also that dork kicker with the 6' ponytail from Winnipeg called the province a bunch of banjo picking inbreeds, or something to that effect a few years ago.

Funfact: About 15 years ago, in Alameda Sask. there was a 'family'. It consisted of GrandpaDad, and SisterMom. The kid was a little special, and would exclaim "He's my Grandpa AND my Dad!".

Unfortunately you are very right; P.A. has some huge issues for a city of its size. Not denying that at all, although SOME people (not you, you've given a fair and accurate assessment based on your own experiences) like to overexaggerate some of the things that happen in P.A., and it just annoys me because I have lived there and it's not as bad as some people like to say.

Fortunately, that has been a lot of growth in the city in the last five years or so. I'm hoping it will continue in that direction.

Again, thanks for a fair assessment of Saskatchewan, and P.A. Like I said, you are speaking from personal experience which validates your opinion.

I've got a post on page 14 that sums up my feelings on the subject there. Not going to repeat myself here.

For the record, I think all of the bashing of the city of Edmonton and its people is over the top as well, but I've never lived there so it doesn't bother me.

If you were tall, and someone called you short, would you care?
My point is, it's called trash talk. If it's not true, who cares?

Mom said something about sticks and stones...

That depends, did Farm Credits pay for your combine, on a loan that you're going to write off, when you claim hail damage wrecked your crops?

sorry, couldn't resist.

I don't particularly care, but the point of my original post was that using replies like "You must have married your cousin, you stupid inbred from Saskatchewan!" toward stupid Rider fans' actions only continues to fuel the problem.

Like I said, I don't really care, but some people would, combining that with alcohol, and you get the problems seen at Stamps vs. Riders games. My point is that both sides contribute, and saying stupid, untrue things only serves to rile people up. Should it rile them up? Well, probably not, but you can say that for a lot of things at football games and relating to the rivalry between the teams.

Default Inbred

My girlfriends cousin, just married his first cousin in Saskatchewan. How is that even allowed? Not sure where these crazy inbred rumours come from?

No BS, this is a fact. I saw the wedding invite.

BTW they are both Riders fans, and I believe that one of them is adopted, but still!

A good women with a full set of teeth must be hard to come by.

There will be some good banjo music at the reception complete with washboard and jug!

That's just it though. Why is it a problem? Why do you want it watered down. It's amazing to have such an intense rivalry complete with trash talk, fighting and the likes. That's sports. It happens all over the world. Hell, the Calgary-Saskatchewan rivalry is tame in comparison....you inbred.

Violenece in and around the games is amazing? Maybe you should've been a soccer fan circa 1982.
