They need to test the FOX radar gun for steroids. No way every single fastball from everyone is 99mph!
I totally agree. I think some of these radar guns that are used for TV broadcasts are calibrated to read higher than the actual speed. 98+mph seems like the norm and I've never seen so many pitchers be able to regularly top 100 mph than on TV. I call BS.
I wish he'd cut his hair already, he looks flippin ridiculous.

I don't know if I'd consider Haren to be a true ace of a pitcher. But he's certainly durable, and easily capable of being a very good number 2 starter.
Looks like more of a long term play by the Angels as much as anything. Given his track record for durability and his career numbers, I think it makes good sense to let John Lackey go, and than trade for Haren to take that spot at his price tag. 7 games back of the Rangers will make it tough for the Angels to run down the Angles this year.

That is a heck of a trade by the Angels. I think Arizona get the short end of that trade and it is possible that this trade ripples down to other trades this week. Guys like Lilly and Oswalt could go for a lot less now.

I read that the "player to be named" could be a high end prospect.
If that is true, it makes it a really interesting trade.

Yeah one top end prospect with potential. I would have expected more. Baseball prospects are so hit and miss, more than any other big sport imo. The thing for me is Joe Saunders is not worth the 6 mill or whatever he is up for.
But Haren is having a terrible season and Arizona must think he's done for good.
Could be one of those 'trade him and get something before he's worthless"

On the surface, the swap may not seem like much of an upgrade; Haren's 4.60 ERA is a match for Saunders' 4.62 mark, and Haren has been working in the DH-free NL. To appreciate the gap between the two pitchers, you have to look past ERA. Haren leads the NL in strikeouts and has an outstanding 4.8-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His ERA has been driven up by unusually high rates of hits on balls in play (a .350 BABIP depute no underlying change in batted-ball distribution) and home runs on fly balls (13.9%, vs. a league average of 10.0%). He has pitched almost exactly as well as he did a year ago, when he finished fifth in the NL Cy Young voting and made his third consecutive All-Star team.
Stupid walk so close to a perfect game. First No hitter in rays history. I witnessed a garza 1 hitter last year and it was pretty magical can't imagine what it would be like to see a live no hitter.

I saw Kevin Millwood pitch one for the Phillies in 2003, that was a lot of fun! He could barely hold onto the ball in the 9th, walked the first batter on four straight pitches if I recall correctly. From inning 7 on the place was a madhouse.
