No, but the Catholic Church might be against a vaccine that could pave the way for unfettered promiscuity again...

But they would be for one that promotes more pro-creation and less desire for contraceptives.

I think the piling on is getting a little old. Obviously Catholics want a cure for HIV as much as anyone. Saying anything otherwise is offensive.

*Laugh* I'm not a Liberal and I'm not blaming anyone. I'm just remembering the uproar over the HPV vaccine. You DO remember that, don't you?

They haven't set that precedent. In fact they have done the opposite. The Catholic church is against the cancer vaccine for some types of cervical cancer in women. This vaccine is no different.

I came into this thread hoping to read some good info about the research and new vaccine.

Instead, the usual attention defeciets who go out of their way to force religion bashing into as many threads as possible hit this up immediately. This week, it's the Catholics.

sigh.....

there really isn't any point to reading most of these threads anymore.

Would you get the Aids vaccine and would enough people get it to create herd immunity.

Not to get all anti-vaccine but there is some small risk associated with getting them be it 1/10,000 or 1/1,000,000. Combine that with parents unlikely to get their kids the vaccine and married couples having to deal with very bad optics if they got the vaccine so likely you wouldn't have wide spread adoption of the vaccine. Especially if this vaccine is only about 80% effective would it make a difference to the average person in the public? Essentially you have your single people aged 20 to 30 who may get it.

In high risk groups like prisons and Drug users you would definately reduce aids but given that people who get the vaccine would no longer be getting tested and likely be less dilagent in condom use when the vaccine did fail you would get larger outbreaks.

So in Africa this would be a great advancement in North America I'm not sure you would see an impact outside of highrisk groups.
