Rolen did ask to be dealt, but it's not like the Jays had to trade him. Either way they did save money in the deal so even if the players they get back don't amount to anything they probably don't lose the deal because with or without Rolen they likely are not a playoff team. So long as they used the money they would have spent to keep Rolen to sign some of their draft picks than it's fine.
But right now Stewart is the only chance they have left to gain a decent player asset out of that trade in my opinion. So if he doesn't amount to anything and the team just pockets the money, than I think Jays fans do lose out. They gave up a gold glove calibre third baseman who was hitting for a good average last year and even his 846 OPS is not a bad number for a 3rd baseman giving you that type of defence.

Rolen's knees couldn't handle playing 3rd on the turf and he requested (very professionally) to be moved somewhere with grass so his knees wouldn't get any worse.
Why would the Jays not grant the trade? We weren't expected to be anywhere near as good as we are this season, and got 2 pitchers in the deal.
Although baseball is business, treating players like doesn't help the franchise 1 bit.
Look at Utah releasing Fisher so he could be closer to better doctors for his girl. Sometimes a players personal life/health do come first.

So McGowan needs arthoscopic surgery on that damn shoulder.
I don't know if he'll pitch in the majors again.

the articles I read yesterday, the staff weren't slamming him at all. then this morning, I see he's been "designated for assignment". Doesn't sound to me like he's coming back.

Yeah i read more about it - the story is originally they wanted him to go down to work on his swing. He accepted the assignment - then after talking to his agent came back and demanded to be dealt. At that point he was DFA'd.

Basically removed him off the 40 man roster so Scott Richmond could be activated from the 60 day DL (placed on the Single A team).
E5 now has to go through waivers however the Jays GM said he does not believe anyone will claim him.
I would think the most likely option are the Jays trying to find a trade for him while taking a certain amount of salary back.
If that is not possible he be assigned to AAA

Works for me. I thought he was worth a shot, but with very good liklihood that it wouldn't work out. It didn't, so move on.

Anyone think Chris Carpenter has a bit of a chip on his shoulder when he goes up against the Jays? 2 games at the Rogers Center since he left he's shut out the Jays both times tossing 17 innings and allowing a whopping 4 hits. I think he's trying to show them something. Romero did really well to hang in there as long as he did tonight.

Yeah, he's definitely bitter about something. He had comments on their attendance the other day, insinuated that the fans were staying away due to too many changes in management over the years. Called for some stability (gave the Cardinals as an example with LaRussa being the manager there forever).

Yeah, his W-L record has been impressive. But he amps his game up even that much more against the Blue Jays. He's a quality pitcher and who knows with a different owner in those days maybe the vision of a staff lead by Halladay and Carpenter could have taken shape.

Yeah, I read those comments too. On one hand I think he has a point where there has been a fair bit of turn over in the front office of the team, and even more on field. But I think part of the blame really needs to move further up the chain.
When Labatt's owned the team it was an owner that wanted the team to do well, and put a lot of resources into it. They had a top notch GM, and front office. When Interbrew took over Labatt's they really didn't care and viewed the Blue Jays as an asset they didn't really want. Eventually they did allow the team to deteriorate to the state it was when Rogers took over. Hopefully Rogers can bring some stability and restore some of the pride in owning the team and build it back up to where they once were.

Another great outing from Brandon Morrow tossing 8 scoreless innings tonight. Anytime you get back to back 8 inning starts with no runs allowed you can't complain too much about your starting pitching.
Morrow in particular seems to be making some great strides, hopefully he can keep it going as he does have the arm to be a dominating pitcher.

No big deal, but I believe you have mistaken him with Glaus. Rolen did request a trade though. He requested, as far as I can recall, to be moved closer to his home which Ciny was distinctly closer too. I will look for the info or a link, but bear with me.
here it is...
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4369798
Glaus, does have bad knees and a bad cases of plantar fasciitis and it was inexorably worsening on the turf at rogers centre. He requested a trade because of his health. Now subsequently he is playing on natural turf in Atl.

I'm torn on what to watch. LeRoy or the draft. Roy is eating up his old mates, like fat kids on free cakes.

I've been switching between the two and it's classic Roy. Pure ground balls.
